Is Luis Diaz set to depart from Liverpool? Here’s what we know about the speculation surrounding his potential move to Manchester City.

Reports suggest that Manchester City is interested in acquiring Luis Diaz, with a proposed fee of $77 million to Liverpool.

However, what insights do we have regarding the Colombian’s possible departure from the Reds?

During the hectic transfer window, discerning fact from fiction can be quite challenging.

Journalists are eager to break the latest news, leading to a rapid spread of information, which may or may not be reliable.

While transfer rumors are a constant presence, they tend to intensify in the final weeks of the window.

This has certainly been the case with Liverpool’s winger, Luis Díaz, as speculation swirls around his future.

Díaz has long been associated with a move to Barcelona, with his father expressing hope earlier this year that the 27-year-old could eventually play in Spain.

However, the recent rumors linking him to Manchester City may be more concerning for Liverpool fans.

Such a development would certainly be a game-changer, likely to be regarded as the most significant signing of the Premier League summer, primarily due to the immense buzz it would generate across social media platforms.

However, is it realistic to expect Diaz to depart from Liverpool within the next three weeks? Let’s examine the available information.

The initial report about his possible transfer to the Etihad Stadium came from Marcos Benito of El Chiringuito, a Spanish television program.

He stated that a five-year contract was on the table, with City prepared to offer $77 million (£60 million/€70 million) to acquire the former Porto player.

Benito reiterated his claims on X (formerly Twitter), stating, “Liverpool are already searching for a replacement for the Colombian.”

He added, “In addition to Luis Díaz, City is also in pursuit of another striker following Julián [Alvarez]’s exit. Nothing has been finalized yet, and Liverpool must consider the offer.”

Given that City has recently transferred its Argentinian forward to Atletico Madrid, it seems plausible that they are seeking new attacking options. But is Diaz truly a target?

It seems that is not the case. On Tuesday, James Pearce from The Athletic reported, “Liverpool have received no inquiries for Luis Diaz from any club.”

His colleague, Sam Lee, who covers Manchester City for the same outlet, supported this statement by saying, “I can confirm there is no validity to the Luis Diaz rumors. That was amusing for a brief moment,” he remarked, adding, “Moreover, pursuing *any* winger right now would seem rather illogical.”

For numerous football enthusiasts, transfer news lacks credibility unless it comes from Fabrizio Romano.

He stated on X, “Manchester City sources refute any agreement with Luís Diaz following recent speculation,” seemingly putting an end to this potentially controversial narrative.

However, it did manage to provoke some frustration among Liverpool fans for a short while.

According to Liverpool.com: If any forward from Liverpool is likely to depart this summer, Diaz seems to be the most probable candidate.

Nevertheless, after scoring two goals against Sevilla, he appears to be in outstanding form as the new season approaches.

Transferring him to a direct competitor would be an unwise decision, and fortunately, it seems that City is exploring other options.
