Jamie Carragher anticipates that Liverpool will part ways with a ‘mad’ player following his performance against Newcastle.

Jamie Carragher expresses uncertainty about Darwin Nunez’s future at Liverpool following the match against Newcastle United.

Liverpool faced Newcastle in a crucial Premier League clash after their recent victory over Manchester City.

With a strong position in the league, the Reds aimed to extend their lead over second-placed Arsenal, entering St. James’ Park with a nine-point advantage.

As Mohamed Salah approached a historic milestone, a win against Newcastle could prove as significant as last weekend’s 2-0 triumph over City, with Liverpool’s title ambitions being rigorously tested this month.

However, Carragher suggested that Nunez might be on his way out of the club next year after observing his performance against Newcastle.

During a discussion on the Overlap, the former Liverpool defender shared his thoughts on Nunez’s future, indicating that the Uruguayan forward may leave Anfield due to not meeting expectations associated with his transfer fee.

Paul Merson had previously criticized Nunez’s display against Real Madrid, noting that the former Benfica striker has yet to deliver the anticipated results since his high-profile move to Liverpool in 2022.

Carragher remarked that unless Nunez significantly improves his performance in the coming year, this season could be his last with the club, as he has not consistently made a substantial impact in the Premier League despite some exciting moments.

He stated, “I’m not sure he’s here next year; I think he’ll probably move on. He’s more like a cult hero because he’s a bit mad and he likes to run around, but he’s better than [Divock] Origi.”

Nunez recognizes that this season represents a critical opportunity for his career at Liverpool.

Having joined the club two years ago amid considerable anticipation, the Uruguayan international initially displayed potential reminiscent of Luis Suarez, leading many to believe he could be the long-term striker for the Reds.

However, as he embarks on his third season at Anfield, Nunez understands that this is a pivotal moment for his Premier League aspirations, as he has yet to reach the performance levels expected of a player of his caliber, particularly given his background at Benfica.

This season’s statistics have been underwhelming, and Liverpool may justifiably consider parting ways with the forward if he fails to meet expectations by the conclusion of the campaign.
