Liverpool’s assistant coach John Heitinga’s agent has dismissed speculation regarding a potential departure from Anfield, affirming that he will remain with the club.

As Liverpool navigates the January transfer window, concerns are mounting over the futures of key players such as Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah, all of whom are now eligible to negotiate with clubs outside the UK.

While the focus on Van Dijk and Salah primarily pertains to potential summer transfers, there is a genuine risk that Alexander-Arnold could make a move to Real Madrid this month.

However, Heitinga is not the only figure at Liverpool facing transfer rumors. Recent reports have linked him to the managerial position at West Brom, prompting his agent, Rob Jansen, to clarify the situation.

Speaking to Dutch publication De Telegraaf, Jansen stated, “John will definitely stay at Liverpool this season.”

This news is a relief for Liverpool, as Heitinga has proven to be a significant asset to the coaching staff.

His contributions have not gone unnoticed, with Arne Slot praising his potential as a future head coach.

The club is also reportedly planning to initiate discussions for a new contract with Heitinga early in the new year, although his eventual departure seems likely at some point.

Arne Slot, a highly regarded young coach poised for a bright future, has consistently praised Heitinga whenever the opportunity arises.

Consequently, a potential January transfer to West Brom would have been a significant setback for both Slot and Liverpool.

Fortunately, Heitinga’s agent, Rob Jansen, has confirmed to Dutch publication De Telegraaf that the former Everton defender will remain at Anfield for the remainder of the season.

Jansen stated, “John will definitely stay at Liverpool this season.”

Additionally, reports indicate that Liverpool intends to initiate discussions regarding a new contract for Heitinga “early in the new year.”

While Heitinga’s eventual departure seems likely, this news is a positive development for Liverpool.

Although Slot deserves considerable recognition for the team’s impressive start to the season, Heitinga has played a crucial role as well.

The former Netherlands international is highly esteemed among coaching assistants, and losing such an integral figure while Liverpool competes on multiple fronts would have created a significant void.

However, as Rousing The Kop disclosed in December, Heitinga aspires to become a head coach in the future.

With more coaching opportunities expected to arise at the end of this season, it appears inevitable that Liverpool will eventually part ways with their assistant.

In the meantime, though, Johnny the Red has a Premier League title to pursue.
