Arsenal’s young talent Ethan Nwaneri netted the decisive goal during his full Champions League debut against Girona.

In the match that concluded the league phase, Arsenal triumphed over Girona with a score of 2-1, securing their place in the round of 16.

Fielding a significantly altered lineup, Arsenal initially fell behind as Arnaut Danjuma scored from outside the box. However, Mikel Arteta’s team quickly turned the tide, with Jorginho converting a penalty and Nwaneri curling a shot into the far corner, giving Arsenal a lead at halftime.

In the second half, Girona believed they had equalized through Cristhian Stuani, but the goal was disallowed by VAR due to an offside call. Raheem Sterling had a chance to extend the lead from the penalty spot, but his effort was thwarted. The match concluded with Arsenal winning 2-1, finishing third in the league phase.

This victory ensures that Arsenal advances directly to the round of 16, avoiding a two-legged playoff. The team can now concentrate on regaining fitness, preparing for the Carabao Cup semifinals, and pursuing Liverpool in the Premier League.
