Federico Chiesa faces another injury setback as Arne Slot provides updates on Diogo Jota.

With both Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota missing from training ahead of the match between Liverpool and Bologna, Arne Slot offered a mixed assessment regarding the two forwards.

Chiesa and Jota were absent from the squad during Tuesday’s training session, which was open to the media. Reports later indicated that Chiesa had undergone a scan due to a foot problem.

While the scan results for Jota showed no injury, concerns remain regarding Chiesa’s condition.

In his pre-match press conference, Slot confirmed that the new signing would not be available for the match against Bologna and is uncertain for the upcoming game against Crystal Palace on Saturday.

“Federico trained with us yesterday but came in today with some issues, so I don’t expect him to be part of the team tomorrow,” he informed the press.

“It’s unfortunate for us, but even more so for him. He was eager to experience a Champions League night at Anfield, especially against an Italian side.

“It’s disappointing for him, but there will be many more opportunities in the future.”

When asked about the expected duration of Chiesa’s injury, Slot stated: “That’s always challenging to determine, as it occurred yesterday, but I don’t anticipate him being sidelined for an extended period.

“However, he won’t be available for this match, and we will have to see if he can return for Saturday.

“Following that, there’s the international break.”

On a more positive note, Slot confirmed that Jota is expected to be fit for the match against Bologna on Wednesday night.

“Diogo missed two training sessions after the game against Wolves due to a knock,” Slot explained.

“I anticipate he will be with us tomorrow and available to play.”

While Jota is likely to participate against Bologna, it is probable that Darwin Nunez, who has returned to the squad after illness, will start in the forward position instead.
