Federico Chiesa, Alisson Becker, and Diogo Jota have received positive fitness updates – Arne Slot confirms good news
According to Arne Slot, there is promising fitness news concerning Federico Chiesa, Alisson Becker, and Diogo Jota.
Arne Slot has provided an encouraging update regarding Federico Chiesa’s fitness, indicating that the Italian winger is expected to return to action after a nine-week absence.
Chiesa has not participated in any matches for Liverpool since he was an unused substitute during the 2-1 victory over Wolves in September, leading to frustration among supporters regarding his fitness issues.
The club’s medical team has implemented a rigorous training regimen for the summer signing, addressing the challenges he faced due to a lack of pre-season preparation with Juventus.
Recent developments have been promising, as Chiesa participated in training with the team last week, visible to the media, prior to Liverpool’s 2-0 win against Real Madrid.
Although he was not included in the squad for that match or the subsequent home victory against Manchester City, the 27-year-old is now in a position to potentially return.
During his pre-match press conference ahead of the upcoming match against Newcastle, Slot mentioned a positive aspect concerning the backup options for Mohamed Salah.
“Is it a concern that we might depend too heavily on him? To some extent, yes, but that’s because he’s human and, as we saw last season, injuries can occur,” he noted regarding Salah.
“Since Federico Chiesa has faced challenges at the club due to injuries, we have lacked a direct replacement for Mo.
“The encouraging news is that Harvey Elliott is regaining his fitness and has played in that position multiple times.
“I’m not worried about Mo’s performance declining, but if he were to get injured, we would be better equipped on the left wing than on the right.
“However, the positive takeaway is that Federico is training with us again and making progress, along with Harvey.
“The ideal scenario for us is for Mo to remain fit and continue delivering impressive performances.”
Will Chiesa be available for the match against Newcastle?
It is still uncertain whether Chiesa will be included in the squad for the game at St James’ Park on Wednesday night, but there is certainly an opportunity for his return.
Ibrahima Konate, Conor Bradley, and Kostas Tsimikas are anticipated to return next year, while uncertainty remains regarding Diogo Jota, with no updates provided by Slot on Tuesday.
Teenager Trey Nyoni was included in the squad for the match against Man City, despite having played most of the previous day’s game for Liverpool U21s, highlighting the current lack of available options.
