Fabrizio Romano discloses that a top-tier player has committed to joining Arsenal, with Arteta expressing strong interest in securing his services.
According to Fabrizio Romano, a “world-class” talent has agreed to sign with Arsenal, as Arteta expresses a keen desire to bring him on board.
Arsenal’s transfer window could be set for an exciting turn with potential new signings as they aim for another Premier League title push.
The Gunners have made progress in securing a central defender, with Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori reportedly being one of the top targets according to renowned Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Calafiori, who is considered ‘world-class’, has impressed with his performances for Bologna and his role in helping the team qualify for the Champions League has attracted attention from clubs across Europe.
Following his strong showing at EURO 2024, where he showcased his talent despite Italy’s early exit, interest in his services has only grown.
Arsenal, under the guidance of Arteta, have finalized a shortlist of three defensive targets, with Calafiori being one of them as confirmed by Romano.
Riccardo Calafiori is being considered by Arsenal as a potential addition to their team.
The latest update from Romano on Wednesday reveals that Arsenal have made a formal offer to the player, following their recent expression of interest in signing him.
Mikel Arteta has included the Italian defender in a shortlist of players being monitored for the upcoming transfer window, with Arsenal also maintaining a positive relationship with Bologna since signing Takehiro Tomiyasu three years ago.
Bologna is reportedly demanding a fee of £43 million for his services, as per Romano. Despite the lack of any formal offer from north London, it is believed that the Italian is willing to consider a move to Arsenal if they can reach an agreement with the Serie A club.
Previously linked with Juventus, Calafiori’s reported preference, Arsenal has now emerged as a strong contender in the race for his signature.
Chelsea has also expressed interest in signing Bologna, making their intentions clear.
The Gunners and the Blues are currently the only two clubs vying for his signature, setting the stage for a potential battle between the two sides.
Chelsea is considering offering players as part of the deal, although the specific players they might propose in a player-plus-cash bid remain unknown.
Romano: Arteta is making a strong push for Riccardo Calafiori.
Speaking on his Playback video, Romano revealed that Arteta is actively pursuing Calafiori’s signing ahead of a summer move. He stated:
“Arsenal are really going after Riccardo Calafiori. After confirming their interest last week, the same goes for Chelsea.
Arsenal have presented their project to Calafiori and his agents. There is a proposal on the table from Arsenal’s side – they are very committed to Calafiori, and it is a long-term proposal.
Arsenal’s seriousness can be attributed to the presence of Mikel Arteta, the manager who is actively advocating for the signing of Calafiori.
Arteta has included Calafiori in the shortlist of three players he is considering. Despite no formal proposal being made to Bologna by Arsenal, negotiations are ongoing with the player’s side.
It seems that Calafiori is inclined to join Arsenal this summer, as he has shown willingness to give the green light to the club, similar to what he did for Juventus.
