Martin Zubimendi has made a decision regarding his next club following discussions with Manchester City, Arsenal, and Liverpool.

After showcasing his talent during the Euros, it is no surprise that both Arsenal and Liverpool have expressed interest in the Real Sociedad midfielder.

Arsenal recently acquired Zubimendi’s former teammate, Mikel Merino, who is expected to play a key role under Mikel Arteta in the midfield.

Ideally, Arteta would likely prefer to have Zubimendi as a defensive midfielder, but the player has proven difficult to lure away from Real Sociedad, as Liverpool discovered this summer when he declined their offer.

However, TBR Football reports that Zubimendi has set his sights on joining Real Madrid.

Despite his decision to favor Madrid, Arsenal and Liverpool continue to pursue Zubimendi. Both clubs engaged in talks with him this summer, but neither could convince him to make the move to England.

Interest in the 25-year-old remains strong, with Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur also monitoring his situation.

Sources close to Arsenal and Liverpool suggest that Zubimendi’s primary ambition is to play for Madrid, which they believe influenced his choice to remain with Real Sociedad this summer.

Real Madrid has long admired Zubimendi and sees him as a potential successor to Luka Modric, who is likely nearing the end of his tenure at the Santiago Bernabeu.

For Arsenal, Zubimendi represents a potential replacement for Thomas Partey, who was available for transfer this summer, but no suitable offers materialized.

Arsenal considered selling Partey during the summer transfer window; however, a fitting offer did not materialize in north London.

Recently, Partey has been identified as a liability for Arsenal, and the 31-year-old has consistently underperformed since then.

The Ghanaian faced criticism for his involvement in Leicester City’s goals at the Emirates last weekend, indicating a player who appears to be on a downward trajectory.

While acquiring Zubimendi may prove challenging for Arsenal, targeting the Spaniard could certainly be a worthwhile endeavor for Edu.
