Exclusive: Liverpool now expect Mo Salah to depart following the most recent discussions regarding his contract…
Liverpool anticipates that Mohamed Salah will fulfill his contract and depart as a free agent at the conclusion of the season, according to sources speaking to TEAMtalk.
Following the latest negotiations concerning his contract, Liverpool now believes that Mo Salah is likely to leave the club.
Under the management of Arne Slot, the Merseyside club is entering a new phase, having started positively at Anfield, despite a recent 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Sporting director Richard Hughes has previously indicated efforts to secure new contracts for Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and Virgil van Dijk, all of whom have agreements expiring next summer.
However, insiders suggest there is a prevailing belief that this will be Salah’s last season with the club, with expectations that he will finally transition to the Saudi Pro League next year.
Negotiators from the SPL have expressed a strong desire for Salah to become a central figure in their initiative, offering to make him one of the highest earners in football history.
Liverpool turned down a £150 million offer from Al-Ittihad, a Saudi club, for Salah during the summer of 2023. Interest from the SPL persists, and there is optimism that a deal will be finalized at the season’s end.
While Salah has engaged in preliminary discussions regarding a new contract with Liverpool, the consensus is that an extension is unlikely.
The forward stands to gain a significantly higher salary and a substantial signing bonus if he joins a Saudi club as a free agent.
Salah has suggested that this may be his final season with Liverpool, stating, “Nobody in the club talked to me yet about contracts, so I’ve said ‘OK, I’ll play my last season and in the end, we’ll see,” during early September.
It is understood that contract negotiations have occurred, but while a new agreement is not out of the question, it appears improbable at this juncture.
Salah, 32, is regarded as one of the premier wingers in global football and has played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s achievements since his transfer from Roma in 2017.
The deal, valued at £43 million, has proven to be a wise investment for the club.
Liverpool may regret their decision to turn down Al-Ittihad’s £150 million offer for Salah if he departs on a free transfer.
Al-Ittihad appears to be the frontrunner for the winger’s signature, having made significant efforts to secure his transfer.
Salah could join notable players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema, and N’Golo Kante in Saudi Arabia, where there is a concerted effort to establish a top-tier league.
However, there remains a considerable distance before they can rival the Premier League.
Alexander-Arnold continues to be a prime target for Real Madrid. He has been frequently linked with a move away from Liverpool amid ongoing contract discussions.
As we reported exclusively on Tuesday, Real Madrid has maintained “constant contact” with the right-back’s representatives as they strategize for a potential acquisition in 2025.
Despite the speculation, Alexander-Arnold is content at Liverpool and is more inclined to sign a contract extension rather than leave on a free transfer.
Following Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, Alexander-Arnold expressed his enthusiasm for his current situation at the club and his excitement about the vision presented by manager Slot.
“For me, it was just an excitement to work under a new manager that I’ve never had before,” Alexander-Arnold stated. “Having spoken to the manager, I was excited about the plans and the way they talk about it.”
