Exclusive: A new date for the Everton vs Liverpool fixture has been set, but Premier League need UEFA approval…
New date for Everton vs Liverpool announced, pending UEFA approval.
The Everton vs Liverpool game has a newly proposed date, which is subject to UEFA’s approval by the Premier League.
The final match between Liverpool and Everton at Goodison Park was postponed last Saturday due to Storm Darragh.
Both clubs are currently in discussions with the Premier League regarding a new date for the fixture, which is tentatively set for early February.
The rescheduled Merseyside derby is now slated for Tuesday, February 11.
The match was originally called off due to adverse weather conditions, and both teams are coordinating with the Premier League, local authorities, and broadcasters to find a suitable time for this significant encounter.
According to Premier League regulations, postponed matches should be rescheduled for the next available midweek slot. However, options are limited due to Liverpool’s ongoing participation in cup competitions.
If Liverpool advances past Southampton in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals next week, they will not have a free midweek until February.
Liverpool’s perfect start in the Champions League positions them for automatic qualification to the knockout stage, which could open up scheduling opportunities for a Premier League match during the Champions League play-offs in early February.
The Premier League requires UEFA’s approval to hold a league match on a Champions League date, but this is expected to be granted without issue.
TNT Sports holds the broadcasting rights for both the Merseyside derby and the Champions League play-offs in the UK and has indicated their support for the Everton vs Liverpool match occurring that week.
Amazon Prime has priority for the Champions League fixtures on Tuesdays, while TNT will cover the remaining matches, meaning any scheduling conflict with the Merseyside derby could affect their coverage.
The Premier League is expected to announce the revised date following the Carabao Cup quarter-finals next week and once Liverpool has secured their position in the Champions League round of 16.
Slot’s team will compete against Lille and PSV Eindhoven in their final two group matches next month, requiring just a draw to advance to the knockout stage.
A surprising loss to Southampton next week could result in the Merseyside derby being rescheduled for one of the two semi-final weeks in January.
The Premier League has chosen not to provide any comments on the matter.
