Edu is encouraging Arsenal to consider a Brazilian center-back, suggesting that Arteta’s signing may not have a long-term future with the Gunners.

Edu is said to be showing strong interest in the talented Brazilian center-back, Douglas Mendes, indicating that Arsenal’s manager, Mikel Arteta, may not be staying with the Gunners for much longer.

This potential signing could potentially lead to the departure of one of Arsenal’s current defenders. Among the Gunners’ defensive options, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba have established themselves as a formidable partnership, making them automatic choices for the starting lineup week after week.

Saliba’s emergence as a top centre-back under Arteta could have potentially displaced Ben White from the starting lineup. However, White has proven his worth in the right-back position and made it his own.

White’s defensive abilities have been invaluable, but his attacking prowess has also been on full display in recent weeks. He showcased his goal-scoring ability in the 6-0 victory against Sheffield United and provided assists for both goals in a thrilling last-minute 2-1 win over Brentford.

Despite having some of the league’s best defenders at his disposal, Arteta is not one to settle for mediocrity. He is constantly looking to improve and stay ahead of the competition. This is evident in his signings of Jakub Kiwior last January and Jurrien Timber in the summer to strengthen the defensive options.

Kiwior has impressed in the left-back position, pushing Oleksandr Zinchenko out of the starting lineup due to his exceptional performances when the Ukrainian was injured. He has now cemented his place in the team.

Meanwhile, Timber is returning from a lengthy spell on the sidelines, having only played a limited amount of time in the Premier League. If he can prove himself, the left-back position could be under threat as Timber looks to make his mark.

Edu’s influence in Arsenal’s transfer dealings is evident as he pushes for the signing of Mendes. Despite this, both Arteta and Edu are determined to continue improving the team.

Recent reports suggest that Arsenal is closely monitoring Mendes, who is currently on loan at Red Bull Bragantino in Brazil from Red Bull Salzburg.

It is believed that Edu is particularly interested in the 19-year-old defender.

However, Mendes’ limited playing time, with only 25 games under his belt and no appearances for his parent club, poses a challenge for Arsenal.

He lacks the necessary first-team experience to qualify for a UK work permit, which means he will need to continue playing before any potential move can materialize.

This potential signing could also have implications for Kiwior’s future at the club. Edu’s extensive knowledge of Brazilian football gives Arsenal fans confidence in his decision-making.

If he believes that Mendes has the potential to succeed in the future, it is likely that he does. As Arsenal looks ahead to the future of their defense, decisions may soon be made regarding the current defenders in the squad.

If Kiwior loses his spot at left-back in the near future, due to the competition at centre-back, he may find it difficult to get playing time once again.

Recent reports suggest that Arsenal is currently in talks with AC Milan regarding the potential departure of the Polish international – Arteta’s team is said to be reluctant to let him leave on loan without a compulsory purchase option.

If this scenario unfolds, especially considering Arsenal’s interest in additional centre-backs, it appears increasingly probable that Kiwior will be offloaded at some stage.
