Darwin Nunez was shocked to see the 27-year-old Liverpool player against Luton yesterday night and said, “I love you.”
Darwin Nunez expresses admiration for 27-year-old Liverpool player’s performance against Luton last night.
Last night’s victory against Luton Town appears to be a significant achievement for Liverpool this season. Typically, a 4-1 home win against a team facing relegation may not seem noteworthy. However, considering they were behind at halftime and are currently without several key players, it was a strong statement from the Reds.
One of the individuals who sustained injuries during the incident was Darwin Nunez. After being substituted in the previous match after 45 minutes, the prominent Uruguayan player was not even prepared to be on the bench yesterday. Due to Mohamed Salah’s absence as well, Liverpool had to field a somewhat makeshift front three.
Nevertheless, all three players, namely Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Harvey Elliott, managed to score. Based on Darwin Nunez’s social media activity following the conclusion of the match, it seems that Diaz caught his attention the most.
After securing his 10th goal of the season at Anfield, the Colombian forward took to Instagram to express his joy regarding the outcome. Diaz concluded his post with the words, “Big battle today,” accompanied by images of his goal and subsequent celebrations. In response, Darwin replied in Spanish, “Come on Luchito, I love you a lot,” along with a flame emoji. How heartwarming.
Following the first half last night, Nunez was possibly the sole Liverpool supporter who had affection for Diaz.
The 27-year-old had two exceptional chances to put the Reds in the lead within the initial five minutes.
Initially, he struggled to control the ball when presented with a one-on-one opportunity by a superb pass from Caoimhin Kelleher. Subsequently, he missed a left-footed shot wide from close range with only the goalkeeper to beat.
After Luton scored, it can be said that Diaz could have scored once or twice more before the first-half whistle blew. It’s not surprising that this game marked the highest number of shots he has ever taken in a Premier League match.
Lucho’s performance this season has had its ups and downs. Although he has shown glimpses of brilliance, his wastefulness has been a noticeable aspect of his game. The absence of Nunez, Salah, and Jota has only magnified this issue.
However, credit must be given to Lucho for his relentless work rate and determination. He never ceases to run and put in the effort on the field.
Rather than dwelling on his mistakes, Diaz has used them as motivation to push himself even harder. His perseverance paid off when he scored a well-deserved goal, showcasing his skill and composure inside the penalty box. With 10 goals to his name now, Diaz has had a successful run with five goals in his last 10 games.
Similar to Darwin, we also appreciate Lucho’s contributions. However, it wouldn’t hurt for him to show a bit more ruthlessness in front of goal. Let’s keep moving forward and strive for improvement.
