Liverpool’s pursuit of this talent could significantly enhance their attacking options.

Carragher emphasizes the need for Liverpool to win the competition for a ‘blistering’ £75 million prospect who can emulate the legacy of an Anfield great.

Jamie Carragher has encouraged Liverpool to intensify their pursuit of Anthony Gordon, advocating for a significant investment in the Newcastle United talent this summer.

He highlighted the attributes that would greatly benefit Arne Slot’s strategy, drawing a notable comparison to a former Anfield icon.

Gordon became a key figure for Newcastle last season, contributing 12 goals and 11 assists across 48 matches.

His ability to challenge opposing full-backs on the left wing, along with his adaptability to play as a centre-forward when required, showcased his value to the team.

Gordon is likely to feel frustrated after spending a significant amount of time on the bench for England during the Euros, especially following a successful club season.

During his time on international duty, speculation began regarding a possible transfer to Liverpool.

Having made his mark at Everton, where he excelled, Gordon later transferred to Newcastle, despite having been a lifelong supporter of Liverpool’s local rivals.

Recent reports indicated that Liverpool and Newcastle had reached an agreement for Gordon, which included defender Joe Gomez.

The proposed deal would have seen Gordon move to Anfield for £75 million, while Gomez would have transferred to Newcastle for £45 million.

However, the transfer ultimately fell through as Newcastle discovered alternative methods to secure transfer funds.

Liverpool remains interested in Gordon as they seek to rejuvenate their attacking lineup under Slot and prepare for a future without Mo Salah, who continues to attract attention from Saudi Arabian clubs.

In recent comments, former Liverpool defender Carragher has expressed his support for Gordon, suggesting that he could make a significant impact for the Reds and exhibit the remarkable speed reminiscent of Sadio Mane.

“I believe he would be a valuable addition to Liverpool; I’m a strong admirer of his,” Carragher stated.

“It’s surprising he hasn’t received more chances with the England squad. His incredible pace can easily outpace defenders, a quality that is rare among players globally.

“I’m a fan of his talent, and I know many others at different clubs share that sentiment. Although he is currently with a prestigious club like Newcastle, there have been discussions about whether he was presented as an option for Liverpool.

“With plenty of time left until the transfer window closes, I anticipate that many teams will engage in transactions as the Euros approach.

“I genuinely believe Liverpool has yet to find a suitable replacement for the speed they lost in their attack when Sadio Mane departed, and it is essential for them to address this.”

Gordon has previously identified a Liverpool icon as his childhood inspiration. “Growing up, Steven Gerrard was my football hero. Being from Liverpool, he was revered like a deity, and he was an extraordinary player,” the winger remarked.

While Liverpool may have a strong interest in Gordon, it is improbable that he will be the first acquisition of the Slot era. On Tuesday, David Ornstein reported that the club is focusing on securing a new defensive midfielder.

Following that, Liverpool may pursue a player from Crystal Palace, although it will be one of Marc Guehi’s teammates, as the club has conceded defeat to Newcastle in their pursuit of the defender.
