The Premier League clarifies the contentious red card issued to Lewis-Skelly during Arsenal’s match.

VAR upheld Michael Oliver’s initial ruling.

The Premier League has provided an explanation regarding the straight red card given to Myles Lewis-Skelly in Arsenal’s encounter with Wolves.

The left-back was sent off in a controversial incident just before halftime at Molineux after intervening in a Wolves counterattack.

As Wolves attempted to launch a break following the clearance of an Arsenal corner, Lewis-Skelly intervened and tripped Matt Doherty to halt the advance.

Referee Michael Oliver unexpectedly issued a red card to the 18-year-old, a decision that was subsequently validated by a VAR review.

The Premier League Match Centre account on X stated: “The referee’s decision to issue a red card to Lewis-Skelly was reviewed and confirmed by VAR, which determined that his challenge constituted serious foul play.”
