Liverpool is eyeing a record transfer for Alexander Isak, as Newcastle moves forward in their search for a replacement for the talented player.
Reports indicate that Liverpool is considering a record-breaking transfer for Alexander Isak, as Newcastle seeks a replacement for the star player.
Liverpool is said to be in the prime position for a potential British record transfer of Alexander Isak, with Newcastle reportedly eyeing a 153-goal successor.
Liverpool has been identified as Alexander Isak’s “most persistent suitors,” with sensational claims suggesting that the Reds are ahead of Arsenal and are currently the team “best positioned to finalize a deal in the future” for the Swedish striker.
Isak is recognized as one of the top strikers in global football, having netted an impressive 12 goals in his last 11 matches.
This remarkable form has made him only the fourth player in Premier League history to score in eight consecutive games.
With 15 goals from 20 appearances in the league, Isak is currently trailing only Mo Salah (18) and Erling Haaland (17) in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.
Although he is under contract at St James’ Park until the summer of 2028, Newcastle is keen to secure him with a new deal and offer a significant pay increase to reflect his rising profile in the sport.
However, Isak has thus far declined the Magpies’ attempts to extend his contract, opting instead to assess the club’s league performance this season.
A player of his caliber aspires to compete in the Champions League, an experience he enjoyed under Eddie Howe last season.
Consequently, there has been considerable speculation linking Isak to Arsenal, with sources emphasizing the Gunners’ interest in the striker, who has been described as a “dream target” for manager Mikel Arteta.
Now, according to Football Transfers, Liverpool is being touted as the frontrunner to secure the signing of the 129-goal striker.
The report indicates that while Arsenal holds the Swedish player in high regard, it is Liverpool that remains one of his most dedicated admirers and is in the strongest position to negotiate a future transfer.
TEAMtalk has previously noted that any potential acquisition of Isak could establish a new British transfer record, with initial bids for the striker expected to commence at £115 million (€136.1 million, $142.1 million).
Additionally, the report mentions that Newcastle is proactively exploring options for a prominent replacement, specifically targeting Viktor Gyokeres. The fellow Swede has been in exceptional form this season, netting an impressive 27 goals across all competitions, and he has accumulated a total of 153 goals in 312 career appearances.
According to the report, Gyokeres has emerged as the primary target for Newcastle amid worries that Isak may be lured away by a rival Premier League club.
Newcastle’s prospects of retaining Isak are under scrutiny as Liverpool considers an upgrade for Nunez. In discussing Isak’s future earlier this week, TEAMtalk correspondent Ben Jacobs noted that the player’s tenure at St James’ Park is closely linked to Newcastle’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League this season.
If the Magpies secure a spot in Europe’s elite competition for the next season, it would be exceedingly challenging to entice the talented Swede away from Tyneside.
Jacobs also pointed out that Isak has been identified as Arsenal’s ideal signing should the opportunity arise to bring him to north London.
However, he is not the only striker under consideration, as the Gunners are also monitoring Benjamin Sesko, Brighton’s Evan Ferguson, and Botafogo forward Igor Jesus.
“We are actively looking in the market to improve the squad, and that’s been the same since day one,” Arteta stated in response to Gabriel Jesus’ ACL injury, which is expected to keep the Brazilian sidelined for a significant portion of the year.
It would be shortsighted not to pursue this opportunity, as it presents a chance to develop the team and enhance the squad, particularly given the current situation. Therefore, we are actively exploring options and making efforts, and we will see what we can achieve.
Meanwhile, the news that Liverpool is now prepared to enter the race for his signature raises further questions about Darwin Nunez’s future.
The Uruguayan has seen his role diminish under Arne Slot this season, having started only seven matches in the Premier League for the Reds.
Although he showcased his talent by coming off the bench to score both goals in last Saturday’s 2-0 victory against Brentford, his inconsistency in front of goal has fueled speculation regarding his future.
Recently, Nunez has been linked to a lucrative transfer to Saudi Arabia. While sources from TEAMtalk have downplayed the likelihood of a January transfer, the striker’s future remains a topic of significant interest, especially with reports suggesting that an upgrade may be pursued this summer.
