Mikel Arteta has provided an update on Declan Rice’s condition following Arsenal’s victory against Wolves.

Rice exited the match with five minutes remaining in Arsenal’s 2-0 win after experiencing discomfort in his calf.

Concerns arose regarding the midfielder’s fitness, especially considering his limited off-season after participating in the Euro 2024 final with England.

However, when questioned about Rice’s status post-match, Arteta clarified, “Yes, he was cramping.”

He may not have had the longest pre-season, but he demonstrated remarkable effort and delivered an outstanding performance once again. By the end, he was facing some challenges.

Rice and his teammate Bukayo Saka took to the field at the Emirates Stadium, despite having played in the Euro 2024 final just 37 days prior.

“I’m not surprised,” Arteta remarked. “Their mentality was evident right after the last match; they expressed their commitment to being ready for the opening game.

“I had discussions with them over the summer to devise a plan. They were eager to return early.

“They were already preparing while on holiday. This is the mindset we require. When players make such commitments, it fosters a culture within the team, elevating everyone’s performance. That’s essential for us.”

Saka delivered an outstanding performance for Arsenal, assisting the first goal and then scoring the second with just over 15 minutes remaining in the match.

His goal was a classic display of his skill, as he maneuvered in from the right side before sending the ball past Jose Sa with precision.

“With talented players, it’s always like this,” he remarked. “With [Lionel] Messi, I know he will come here and place the ball exactly where he wants, and he does it consistently. Stopping him is nearly impossible. That’s the hallmark of exceptional players.”
