Arteta indicates that Arsenal may have sustained a serious injury in their encounter with Manchester City.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has indicated that the team may face a significant injury setback following their match against Manchester City.

The Gunners played the second half with only ten players at the Etihad Stadium, yet they managed to deliver a commendable defensive performance, maintaining their lead until a last-minute equalizer from John Stones denied them a victory.

Arteta’s tactics drew criticism from the City side, who accused Arsenal of time-wasting, as players like David Raya, Gabriel Martinelli, Riccardo Calafiori, and Jurrien Timber appeared to require treatment, allowing Arteta to communicate with his squad during the stoppages.

However, Arteta has implied that these were genuine injury issues, as he provided a vague update on team news, stating that “a few players” would be unavailable for the upcoming Carabao Cup match against Bolton.

When asked about the players who might miss the game, Arteta responded at his Tuesday press conference: “You will find out tomorrow when I announce the lineup.”

In response to inquiries about any serious injuries sustained during the City match, he remarked, “We have to wait on one of them.”

Raya was seen leaving the stadium with a limp and a bandage on his right knee, although Arteta has not completely ruled out the possibility of the goalkeeper being fit to play against Bolton.

Timber and Calafiori both had to leave the field during the match against City, but Timber later participated in a post-match interview, providing an optimistic update regarding his fitness.

“It’s been quite a while since I’ve played this many matches, especially within a week, so that’s really encouraging,” he remarked.

Concerns have arisen regarding Ben White, who played 45 minutes at the Etihad despite not being included in Arsenal’s starting lineup due to a fitness concern.

“He would go to great lengths for the team, and the plan was to avoid using him today, but we had no choice, and I’m very thankful for his excellent performance,” Arteta commented following the game.
