Arsenal’s director of football, Edu, has reportedly put together a list of ten potential strikers, as the club aims to secure a new frontman for the upcoming summer transfer window. Among the names on the shortlist are Ivan Toney, Viktor Gyokeres, and Alexander Isak.
According to reports, Edu, the sporting director of Arsenal, has assembled a 10-man shortlist consisting of 185 goals in total. Among the names on the list is Victor Osimhen, as well as a promising player from Xabi Alonso’s team.
In their pursuit of strengthening their attacking options, Arsenal aims to acquire a top-notch striker during the upcoming summer transfer window.
Edu’s carefully curated list of potential signings features notable names such as Ivan Toney, Alexander Isak, and Viktor Gyokeres, who has been a prolific scorer for Sporting CP with an impressive goal-per-game record.
Arsenal has been highly productive this season despite not having a consistent recognized striker, having scored the most goals in the Premier League with 70 so far.
Kai Havertz has often filled in as a false nine in the absence of Gabriel Jesus, and after some initial struggles, he has begun to excel in that position.
However, the Gunners will be transitioning back to a traditional number nine system starting next season, and they are currently in the process of narrowing down their options, according to reports from the Daily Mirror.
Among the most well-known names in England due to their experience in the Premier League are Ivan Toney and Alexander Isak.
Edu has compiled a list of ten potential candidates:
1. Ivan Toney, 28, Brentford
2. Alexander Isak, 24, Newcastle
3. Viktor Gyoekeres, 25, Sporting CP
4. Victor Osimhen, 25, Napoli
5. Lois Openda, 24, RB Leipzig
6. Benjamin Sesko, 20, RB Leipzig
7. Evanilson, 24, Porto
8. Brian Brobbey, 22, Ajax
9. Santiago Gimenez, 22, Feyenoord
10. Victor Boniface, 23, Bayer Leverkusen.
Brentford’s star player has scored four goals in 10 matches since his return from a betting suspension and netted 21 goals in total last season. The club has set a hefty £100 million price tag on him.
On the other hand, Isak has scored 16 goals in all competitions for Newcastle and has managed to maintain his performance despite ongoing injury concerns, adapting well to life in England in his second season.
Sporting is determined to retain Gyokeres, whom they acquired for a record-breaking £20 million in the summer. He has propelled them to the top of the Portuguese league with 36 goals in 39 matches across all competitions. Chelsea reportedly made a £73 million offer for him in January, which was rejected due to his high value.
Lastly, Victor Osimhen is a standout player for Napoli and ranked as the eighth-best player in the world according to the 2023 Ballon d’Or list.
Following his remarkable achievement of leading them to their first Scudetto in 33 years last season by scoring 26 Serie A goals, he gained widespread attention across Europe. Napoli’s owner, Aurelio De Laurentiis, was said to have demanded £150m for him during the summer transfer window.
His performance has slightly declined this season, with only 13 goals in all competitions compared to 31 in the previous season. Nevertheless, he remains a highly sought-after player in Europe.
As Napoli currently sits in seventh place and is unlikely to secure a spot in elite European competitions next season, it is possible that his time at Diego Maradona’s former club is coming to an end.
Beyond the top four names, there is a group of promising young talents aged between 20 and 24 who are attracting significant interest. RB Leipzig’s Lois Openda, who has been on Manchester United’s radar, has been steadily building his reputation over the past few years.
In the current term, he has scored 23 goals, surpassing his previous records of 21 for Lens last season and 24 for Vitesse the year before. He is proving to be a rising star for Domenico Tedesco’s revamped Belgium squad, notably netting twice against Manchester City earlier in the season.
His Leipzig colleague, Benjamin Sesko, has also caught Edu’s attention with 11 goals this season, making him the youngest player on the list at just 20 years old.
Arsenal supporters may recognize Porto’s Evanilson, who faced off against them in the Champions League round of 16. Evanilson has tallied an impressive 22 goals and six assists this season.
Ajax’s Brian Brobbey is another standout performer, scoring 20 goals despite the team’s lackluster overall performance this campaign. Meanwhile, Feyenoord’s Santiago Gimenez has been even more prolific in the Netherlands, finding the back of the net 24 times this season, including a hat-trick against Ajax in a match that spanned two days due to fan disturbances.
Victor Boniface, the last name to be mentioned, has been an integral part of Xabi Alonso’s transformative journey with Bayer Leverkusen, remaining undefeated throughout the season. Despite a groin injury that has kept him out of action since December, he has impressively scored 16 goals and provided nine assists.
Considering his remarkable contribution, Edu has a staggering tally of 185 goals to consider. So, it’s time to delve into your resources and make your selection.
The future prospects for Eddie Nketiah are uncertain, as he has only managed to score six goals in 33 appearances, presenting a modest performance in comparison.
