Arsenal’s pursuit of a Premier League midfielder gains momentum as a rival club withdraws interest, providing a significant boost to their chances of securing the player’s signature.

Arsenal’s hopes of signing Premier League midfielder Amadou Onana have been given a lift as Barcelona, a rival club in the pursuit, has withdrawn from the deal. The Spanish publication SPORT reported this development, indicating that Arsenal now has a clearer path to secure the services of the talented Everton player.

Based on the information from SPORT, Arsenal’s chase for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana has been given a positive development.

Reportedly, Barcelona, who were also interested in the Belgian player, have decided to withdraw from the negotiations.

Arsenal has shown interest in Onana for quite some time. Back in the summer of 2022, they considered signing him before he eventually joined Everton in a £33 million deal.

Everton’s Onana has been a standout player for Sean Dyche’s team this season, making 29 appearances and scoring three goals. His exceptional performances in the midfield have earned him a strong fan base.

Arsenal may see him as the perfect candidate to replace Thomas Partey. As Mikel Arteta continues to rebuild the team, the Gunners are actively seeking to bring in another top-tier central midfielder, having already secured the signing of Declan Rice for a hefty £100 million last summer.

Journalist Charles Watts has previously confirmed that Arteta’s team has their sights set on a midfielder, and Onana could very well be the player they pursue.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Onana is not without competition, as Manchester United also have their eyes on the Everton midfielder.

However, it seems that Barcelona, who are usually strong contenders in the transfer market, have decided to withdraw from the race.

According to SPORT, the Spanish giants have abandoned their interest in Onana due to Everton’s hefty £52 million asking price.

Onana, a box-to-box midfielder known for his tenacity in duels, is only 22 years old and has immense potential to develop further. He could thrive at the Emirates Stadium.

With his height and work ethic, Onana could form a formidable midfield partnership with Rice at Arsenal.
