Arsenal XI vs Monaco: Confirmed lineup, team news and injury latest for Champions League game today…
Arsenal prepares to face Monaco in tonight’s Champions League match at the Emirates Stadium, following a draw against Fulham in their recent Premier League outing.
Arsenal is set to face Monaco with a projected 4-3-3 lineup, featuring Rice in a new position and Tierney starting. The team will implement three major changes, as seven players, including Thomas Partey , are unavailable due to injuries.
The team struggled with finishing and will need to enhance their performance against Monaco.
Manager Mikel Arteta is confronted with a selection dilemma due to injuries affecting seven players, including Jurrien Timber and Thomas Partey, who were absent from training on Tuesday.
Currently, Arsenal sits two points shy of the top eight in the Champions League standings, which would secure a place in the round of 16 without the need for a knockout playoff.
This evening’s match is crucial, and we expect at least three alterations to the starting lineup.
Formation: 4-3-3
Projected Line-up:
David Raya has been exceptional in goal this season, aiming for his third consecutive clean sheet at home across all competitions.
In defense, changes are necessary due to the injuries to Timber and Partey. Arteta has indicated that Kieran Tierney may make his first appearance for the club since August 2023.
With Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Oleksandr Zinchenko unavailable, Tierney is likely to take up the left-back position.
William Saliba and Jakub Kiwior are expected to remain as the central defensive duo, while Gabriel Magalhaes is doubtful due to injury.
For the right-back position, Arteta may opt for an unconventional choice.
Josh Nichols has filled in there during the Carabao Cup but is also dealing with an injury. Therefore, it is anticipated that Declan Rice will step into the right-back role against Monaco.
Rice has experience playing as a central defender for West Ham United and has made rare appearances at right-back, making him a suitable candidate for the position.
In the midfield, Jorginho and Martin Odegaard are expected to be joined by Mikel Merino. The Spanish player will be valuable against Monaco due to his ability to make late runs into the penalty area.
We anticipate one alteration in the attacking lineup, with Gabriel Martinelli replacing Leandro Trossard.
Although Martinelli was caught offside, which cost Arsenal a late goal, he demonstrated greater attacking drive than Trossard did from the left flank against Fulham.
The Brazilian is likely to start this evening alongside Saka on the right wing. Given Gabriel Jesus’ current struggles with form and confidence, Kai Havertz is expected to be a certain starter in the forward position.
This is how Arsenal might set up against Monaco.
