Arsenal Transfer Update: Eight-Player Shortlist Revealed as First January Signing Announced

Arsenal is actively seeking to acquire a high-caliber forward during the January transfer window, having already confirmed their initial transaction of the month.

With the January transfer window now open, Arsenal is poised to make significant moves before the month concludes.

The Gunners are considering strengthening their squad mid-season, particularly after the announcement that key player Bukayo Saka will be sidelined for approximately two months due to a torn hamstring.

When asked about the possibility of utilizing the transfer window, Mikel Arteta stated, “We don’t know. We will see, hopefully we don’t see any more injuries.”

In reality, Arsenal may have pursued transfers regardless of Saka’s injury, as Arteta believes that additional reinforcements could be crucial for the latter part of the season.

The addition of another forward is a strong possibility, especially with Marquinhos likely leaving the club.

On Wednesday, Arsenal confirmed that 20-year-old defender Josh Robinson has joined Wigan on a permanent basis, signing a three-and-a-half-year contract.

With this first deal completed, here are the latest updates regarding Arsenal’s transfer activities from Mirror Football.

Eight-Player Transfer Target List

Arsenal is focused on acquiring a forward this month and has identified eight potential targets.

Newcastle striker Alexander Isak is currently in excellent form and remains a point of interest for Arteta, although securing him in January appears highly unlikely, given that the Magpies have set his price at £150 million.

Other names on their shortlist include Wolves’ Matheus Cunha and Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, while Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sane and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko are also under consideration.

Arsenal previously attempted to sign Nico Williams from Athletic Bilbao during the summer and may revisit that option this month.

Additionally, Arda Guler and Florian Wirtz are both players who have garnered interest in north London.

Arsenal’s Position

Arsenal is contemplating the possibility of terminating the loan of backup goalkeeper Neto instead of Raheem Sterling if they find the need to acquire another loan player.

Neto, currently on loan from Bournemouth, is part of the Gunners’ full complement of domestic loan players alongside Sterling.

Since his transfer from Chelsea, Sterling has not met expectations, yet Arteta remains inclined to retain the winger for the remainder of the season.

Having previously worked with him at Manchester City, Arteta believes in Sterling’s potential contributions.

“I would like to see him more, to be honest, and that responsibility lies with me. He is putting in great effort,” Arteta stated recently.

“His dedication and commitment to the team have been outstanding, and now it’s time for me to provide him with more playing time.”

Marmoush Addresses Transfer Speculation

Omar Marmoush, who has been rumored to be a target for Liverpool, Arsenal, and Manchester City, has stated that he is not currently focused on a transfer.

The Eintracht Frankfurt forward has had a remarkable season, netting 13 goals and assisting seven times in 15 Bundesliga matches.

“I assure the fans that I will give my all for Eintracht in every match,” Marmoush told TZ. “I am not considering a transfer at this moment. I am fully present and enjoying my experience in Frankfurt.”
