Arsenal and Edu Gaspar are reportedly preparing to make their first bid for a highly sought-after £42 million player following a relatively quiet transfer window.

Report indicates that Edu is now anticipated to make an initial bid for a star player worth £42 million right after the conclusion of Euro.

Arsenal and Edu Gaspar, the sporting director, are preparing to make their initial offer for a highly sought-after star worth £42 million, following a relatively quiet transfer window.

Mikel Arteta is considering the addition of new defenders to Arsenal.

The team from north London ended the 2023/2024 season with the best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding the fewest goals.

Despite this, Arteta is reportedly seeking to strengthen the depth of his defensive line. While Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba have performed well, a prolonged absence for either player could pose a challenge for Arteta.

Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jakub Kiwior, and Ben White have been the primary full-back options for Arsenal, prompting the Gunners to seek a different star center-half to provide backup for Saliba and Gabriel.

Arsenal is exploring the possibility of signing Guehi from Crystal Palace, while also being linked with Barcelona’s Jules Kounde and Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori.

The latter has gained attention as one of Europe’s most sought-after defenders, following an outstanding Serie A campaign at Bologna and promising performances for Italy at Euro 2024.

Calafiori, who made 30 league appearances and impressed under former boss Thiago Motta, is also being pursued by his ex-manager at Juventus.

Calafiori is reportedly considering a move to Juventus, as per Fabrizio Romano, and there are rumors suggesting that Carlo Ancelotti is also interested.

Real Madrid is said to be eyeing Calafiori, along with several other clubs, with Bologna director Giovanni Sartori hinting that a move abroad is likely for the player rather than to Turin.

“We brought Calafiori on board just a year ago, so we will have to wait and see what unfolds. However, our intention is to retain him,” he stated during a recent press conference (via TEAMtalk).

“Juventus has been mentioned, as well as numerous other teams. If substantial offers come in, we will have to consider them.

” I believe he will not end up at Juventus; it is more probable that he will move abroad. Nevertheless, we will make an effort to hold onto him.”

Arsenal’s pursuit of former FC Basel starlet Calafiori is progressing.

Edu is anticipated to make an initial bid for Calafiori soon, although they may face competition from both domestic and international rivals.

Calafiori’s versatility as a left-sided centre-back who can also play at left-back makes him an attractive option for Arteta, providing cover for two positions in the defense.

However, due to the 50 per cent sell-on clause agreed between Basel and Bologna, the Serie A side may demand a premium fee, with reports suggesting it could reach as high as £42 million.
