Thomas Frank argues that Kai Havertz should have been shown a second yellow card for diving before scoring the winning goal against Brentford. The Brentford boss believes that the goal should not have stood due to the controversial nature of the play.

Brentford manager Thomas Frank believes that Kai Havertz should have received a red card prior to scoring the decisive goal that led Arsenal to a 2-1 victory over Brentford. Havertz, who scored the winning goal for Arsenal, has faced criticism for what Frank described as a “clear dive.”

In the dying moments of the game, Havertz emerged as the hero by scoring a late goal to give Arsenal the lead and secure a valuable three points, propelling them to the top of the Premier League. However, there is controversy surrounding Havertz’s presence on the pitch at that crucial moment.

The German player had already received a yellow card in the first half, and many believe he should have been shown a second yellow for a perceived dive in the second period.

Expressing his dissatisfaction, the Bees manager voiced his opinion to Sky Sports, stating, “I personally believe that Havertz should not have been allowed to continue playing when he scored. It was evident that he dived, and although it may have been challenging for the referee, the linesman should have spotted it.”

He further elaborated his grievances to BBC Sport, highlighting the frustration felt by his players. “The team was extremely upset because they felt they were unjustly treated when Havertz dived. The replays clearly show that it was a dive. That should have resulted in a second yellow card, reducing their team to 10 players.

Arsenal told why Kai Havertz winner shouldn’t have stood as Brentford boss Thomas Frank makes ‘clear dive’ claim against Gunners hero. “I actually don’t think Havertz should be on the pitch when he scored, he should have received the second yellow for diving… I consider this to be a pivotal moment in the match. I hope the officials acknowledge their error, especially considering the previous complaints about a marginal VAR decision that went against us. It would be beneficial if they remember this when discussing the game later.”

Arsenal secured a crucial victory amidst the controversy, propelling them to the top of the Premier League standings ahead of Manchester City and Liverpool. The Gunners’ position at the summit, however, hangs in the balance pending the outcome of Pep Guardiola’s side’s visit to Anfield this Sunday.

The fate of Arsenal’s league leadership will be determined by the result of the upcoming match, beyond their control. In the meantime, Mikel Arteta’s squad will shift their focus to the Champions League last-16 showdown against Porto in the midweek. With a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Portugal, Arsenal will be aiming for a victory to progress in the competition.
