Arsenal is reportedly prepared to activate Viktor Gyokeres’ release clause, estimated at £84.2 million, in a bid to outmaneuver Manchester United for the striker’s signature.

Despite the absence of a sporting director, Manchester United is actively exploring the January transfer window to bolster their squad under Ruben Amorim’s guidance.

The team faces significant challenges, likened to “open heart surgery,” and while not all issues can be addressed mid-season, acquiring even one key player could provide long-term benefits.

Recent reports indicate that Amorim is ready to breach the ‘non-aggression pact’ with Sporting CP to secure Gyokeres this month.

The Swedish forward, who was the top scorer in Europe last year, is well-known for his goal-scoring prowess.

Following Gabriel Jesus’ ACL injury, which will sideline him for the remainder of the season, Arsenal’s only available striker is Kai Havertz, who does not fit the traditional number nine role.

This situation has prompted the Gunners to pursue Gyokeres.

Manchester United, under Amorim’s leadership, is also keen on Gyokeres, given the striker’s impressive track record.

The Red Devils have struggled with goal-scoring this season, and neither Rasmus Hojlund nor Joshua Zirkzee has sufficiently impressed Amorim to earn his trust moving forward.

Thus, Gyokeres would represent a significant improvement.

Having been the standout scorer in Europe last year and with a strong start to the current season, Gyokeres is poised for a remarkable year.

It remains uncertain where his future lies, but Arsenal’s efforts to secure his transfer ahead of Manchester United will be closely watched this month.
