Arsenal is making significant efforts to secure the signing of a highly skilled player worth €140m, as Edu prepares to formally submit an official offer.

According to a report from Record, Arsenal is showing keen interest in securing the services of a talented duo worth €140m.

The Gunners have been closely monitoring Ousmande Diomande and Goncalo Inacio from Sporting Lisbon, who are expected to depart this summer.

Sporting Lisbon’s central defensive pairing has been exceptional, leading them to the top of the Primeira Liga, surpassing reigning champions Benfica.

Diomande and Inacio have release clauses of €80m and €60m respectively, and Sporting Lisbon is said to be preparing for their potential departures.

The Lisbon giants are actively searching for new center-backs for the upcoming summer transfer window, and their defensive duo has caught the attention of several top European clubs.

Among the teams closely monitoring Sporting matches is Arsenal, who have shown intermittent interest in the players.

In addition to Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea, and Real Madrid are also keeping a close eye on the situation.

When it comes to Arsenal’s pursuit, Diomande and Inacio have both been linked with the Gunners for the past year.

While Diomande was a target for Mikel Arteta’s side last winter, Sporting managed to secure his signature ahead of Arsenal. The Gunners made another attempt to sign him for €35m last summer, but Sporting rejected their offer.

On the other hand, Arsenal has yet to make any moves for Inacio despite the ongoing speculation. In our opinion, Diomande would be an excellent fit for the Gunners due to his superior distribution and defensive abilities.

The Primeira Liga statistics speak for themselves. The Ivorian star has showcased an impressive passing accuracy of 91 percent this season, surpassing Inacio’s 88 percent. Not only that, but he has also emerged victorious in a higher percentage of duels, with 65 compared to Inacio’s 51 in the division.

Furthermore, when it comes to retaining possession, Diomande has proven to be more reliable, losing possession only 5.5 times per outing, in stark contrast to Inacio’s 10.2 occasions. Additionally, Diomande holds the advantage of being two years younger than his Portuguese counterpart. It is evident that he is the superior choice.

Although Diomande may come with a higher price tag, investing in him would be a wise decision for Arsenal. While William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes currently hold their positions as undisputed starters, the Gunners require strong competition to strive for consistent success in the upcoming seasons.

Jurrien Timber, who is currently recovering from a knee injury, will be ready to make his mark next season. By acquiring Diomande, Arteta would have another reliable asset at his disposal, allowing him to rotate his options without compromising on quality.
