Key players remain unavailable as Arteta implements five changes | Projected Arsenal line-up versus Crystal Palace

Arsenal is set to host Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium for the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup this evening.

The Gunners enter this match following a 0-0 stalemate with Everton in the Premier League, having also drawn against Fulham prior to facing the Toffees.

The North London side has advanced to this stage of the EFL Cup by defeating Bolton Wanderers and Preston North End in the earlier rounds.

Thus, the Eagles represent their most formidable opponent in this tournament so far.

Conversely, Crystal Palace has experienced a challenging start to the season but has shown signs of improvement in recent matches.

They recently secured draws against Aston Villa and Manchester City, along with a victory over Brighton and Hove Albion last weekend.

Oliver Glasner’s team navigated past Norwich City, QPR, and Aston Villa in the previous rounds to reach the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Team updates

In his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta indicated that there are no new updates regarding team news from the last match, with Oleksandr Zinchenko and Riccardo Calafiori expected to remain out due to their respective injuries.

Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are also unavailable due to injury concerns.

Projected line-up

Arteta is anticipated to make several adjustments to his starting lineup for this match, but David Raya is expected to retain his position as goalkeeper.

Gabriel Magalhaes has returned from injury but may be rested for this fixture.

Consequently, William Saliba is likely to partner with Jakub Kiwior in central defense, while Jurrien Timber and Myles Lewis-Skelly are expected to occupy the full-back positions.

Jorginho may be utilized in the deep-lying playmaker role, allowing Thomas Partey to rest during the midweek match.

Additionally, Declan Rice and Martin Odegaard could also be rested tonight, which would enable Mikel Merino and Ethan Nwaneri to form the midfield trio.

Raheem Sterling is likely to start, providing Bukayo Saka with a chance to take a break midweek, while Leandro Trossard is expected to play on the opposite flank.

Gabriel Jesus is anticipated to lead the attack as the central striker, with Kai Havertz available to come off the bench if necessary.

Projected Arsenal lineup against Crystal Palace:

Raya; Timber, Saliba, Kiwior, Lewis-Skelly; Jorginho, Merino, Nwaneri; Sterling, Jesus, Trossard.
