Kavanagh seems to have made a significant error during the Arsenal vs Brighton match, particularly concerning Rice, as new footage has surfaced – analysis

Arsenal faced Brighton and Hove Albion at the Emirates in the early kick-off, with both teams eager to maintain their unbeaten records.

The match concluded in a draw. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal initially took the lead in the first half with a goal from Kai Havertz, but Brighton equalized in the second half through Joao Pedro.

There was considerable speculation about Arsenal’s pursuit of Ivan Toney on transfer deadline day, as they sought a striker, but he ultimately moved to Al-Ahli.

Kai Havertz, however, quieted critics who believed the club needed additional striking options by netting his second goal of the Premier League season.

One concern for Arsenal arose when Martin Odegaard suffered an injury in the first half; he continued playing and is expected to recover, although his condition should be monitored.

The Gunners’ only real alternative is Ethan Nwaneri, who lacks experience.

The match was marked by controversy, particularly regarding a crucial decision made by Chris Kavanagh in the first half…

Chris Kavanagh incorrectly sent off the wrong player during Arsenal vs Brighton.

VAR may have erred earlier in the match when Lewis Dunk appeared to handle the ball from a shot by Ben White, which seemed to prevent a certain goal.

BT Sport broadcasted the match, and footage has been circulating on social media.

Chris Kavanagh faced a significant decision when Declan Rice received a second yellow card for allegedly kicking the ball away.

The midfielder had already been cautioned in the first half for a challenge on Joel Veltman, and Kavanagh deemed Rice’s action worthy of a second booking.

However, this decision appears to be quite severe, as Rice barely makes contact with the ball while it is at his feet, and Veltman clearly initiates contact with a kick.

In reality, it seems that the player who should have been dismissed was Veltman, who was wearing a Brighton jersey.

Was Declan Rice justifiably sent off? While we support referees in penalizing players for time-wasting and unnecessary disruptions, Rice’s actions were largely innocuous.

The ball was kicked into his path as he turned away from Veltman, and his touch was minimal compared to many unpunished instances where players kick the ball much farther.

In fact, Veltman should have faced disciplinary action for his aggressive kick aimed at Rice, which clearly intended to cause harm rather than play the ball.

There will always be varying interpretations of such incidents, but it is unacceptable to allow a player to strike another when the ball is not in play.

Even Ally McCoist, commenting live on BT Sport, expressed his belief that Veltman should have been the one sent off.
