Arsenal is said to be making significant efforts to sign a £60m UCL talent, alongside their ongoing interest in Mikel Merino – reports…
Arsenal is reportedly keen to acquire a £60 million UEFA Champions League star in addition to Mikel Merino, indicating a highly proactive approach in the transfer market.
According to reports, Arsenal is actively pursuing the signing of a £60 million player from the UEFA Champions League, alongside their interest in Mikel Merino.
Arsenal are reportedly keen on securing the services of Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, as per Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Gunners have already brought in David Raya and Riccardo Calafiori during this transfer window, with more potential signings on the horizon.
Mikel Arteta is prioritizing the addition of a new midfielder, while a high-profile center-forward could also be on the cards.
In a recent report, Gazzetta dello Sport mentioned that Arsenal have shifted their focus away from Napoli’s Victor Osimhen due to the hefty price tag set by the Serie A club.
Napoli is said to be demanding a fee close to Osimhen’s £111 million release clause, a figure that Arsenal are unwilling to meet.
They are actively pursuing Gyokeres, although the outlet does not provide further details.
Gazzetta dello Sport also reports that Arsenal is interested in the possibility of acquiring Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez in addition to Atletico Madrid.
Arsenal is currently negotiating a transfer for Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino, having reached an agreement on personal terms with him.
The club’s management is also considering the addition of a top-tier striker to enhance their chances of competing with Manchester City for the Premier League title.
Victor Osimhen has been linked with a move to the Premier League for some time, but a transfer seems unlikely due to Napoli’s demands.
Arsenal is not expected to overpay for any striker. Additionally, Osimhen’s history of injuries raises concerns about him being a safe investment for the team.
On the other hand, Gyokeres has the potential to be a fantastic acquisition. The Swedish player scored 43 goals and provided 15 assists in his first season with Sporting.
He outperformed Osimhen by 37 goal contributions and has not suffered any injuries so far. Notably, he has never missed a club game due to injury.
Despite having an £85 million release clause in his contract, reports suggest that Sporting may be open to accepting £60 million for his transfer.
Arsenal may aim to bargain for a lower fee for Gyokeres. They could finalize a deal before the upcoming season begins.
