Arsenal is reportedly interested in acquiring a £45 million Champions League star, having observed his performance closely.
Arsenal is reportedly monitoring a UEFA Champions League star who has scored 14 goals in 19 matches, with a potential transfer fee of £45 million.
Arsenal is said to be tracking a £45 million star from the UEFA Champions League, who has recorded 14 goals in 19 matches, according to recent reports.
According to reports, Arsenal is keen on acquiring a £45 million player from the UEFA Champions League, who has netted 14 goals in 19 appearances.
According to Calciomercato journalist Maurizio Russo, scouts from Arsenal were present to watch one of Atalanta’s standout players during a match on Tuesday night.
Last summer, the Gunners were expected to secure a new striker, but ultimately, no deal was finalized.
Benjamin Sesko and Alexander Isak were among their primary targets, but both were unavailable, leading Arsenal to forgo other options.
Isak remains Arsenal’s top target for the upcoming summer transfer window, but Russo indicates that the club is also monitoring Mateo Retegui of Atalanta, who recently impressed in the Champions League.
The 25-year-old forward scored two goals in Atalanta’s 6-1 victory against Young Boys.
Arsenal is not the only club interested in Retegui; Paris Saint-Germain is also keeping an eye on the Italian international.
After joining Genoa from Tigres in the summer of 2023, Retegui had a modest debut season, netting nine goals and providing three assists in 31 appearances.
However, Atalanta’s faith in him has been rewarded, as he has since scored 14 goals and assisted three times in just 19 matches across all competitions.
Retegui has demonstrated impressive finishing skills, converting 27 percent of his shots into goals in Serie A this season.
His passing accuracy stands at nearly 80 percent, although he averages only 11 passes per game.
This limited involvement in build-up play may pose challenges for his potential fit within Arsenal’s system, as manager Mikel Arteta favors a center-forward who can effectively link up play in the attacking third.
Retegui’s ball control has also been noted as a possible concern.
Given these factors, it seems unlikely that Arsenal will pursue the £23 million-rated forward.
Instead, they may opt to invest significantly in Isak, who possesses extensive experience in the Premier League and could be available if Newcastle United fails to secure a Champions League spot.
