Arsenal is reportedly engaged in extensive negotiations to secure the services of a high-profile Premier League player, in an effort to rectify the imbalances within their squad.

The talks between Arsenal and the undisclosed Premier League club have reached a critical stage, indicating the Gunners’ determination to make a surprising addition to their team.

Currently experiencing a downturn in form, Arsenal has only managed to win one out of their last seven matches across all competitions. This slump has also seen them fall behind in the race for the Premier League title. Furthermore, their hopes of clinching the FA Cup were dashed on Sunday, as they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium. This setback potentially leaves them without a trophy for the fourth consecutive season.

Despite concerns about Financial Fair Play (FFP), Arsenal are determined to strengthen their squad this month. They are considering an unconventional choice to improve their fortunes, as Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has confirmed that talks are underway for Amadou Onana to join the Emirates Stadium. This decision may puzzle some fans, as Arsenal’s main struggle lies in scoring goals rather than midfield performance. This season, Kai Havertz has partnered with Martin Odegaard in midfield, with Declan Rice playing behind them, since Granit Xhaka’s departure from the club. Xhaka’s absence has been noticeable, and signing a natural No.8 midfielder would be a logical move, especially considering Thomas Partey’s injury troubles this season.

Everton is facing financial fair play (FFP) issues and may demand a significant amount of money for their talented midfielder. However, they might consider selling him to strengthen other areas of their squad.

The positive news for Arsenal manager Arteta and the loyal Arsenal fans is that Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth has been consistently scoring goals this season.

According to the Daily Star, Arsenal is still in search of a new striker in the January transfer window. While they are interested in Brentford’s Ivan Toney, they also have their eyes on Bournemouth’s Solanke as another potential number nine to bring to north London.

Regrettably for the Gunners, this will not come at a low cost, as per the Mirror’s report, any attempt to acquire the former Liverpool striker will require a minimum of £50m, making it a significant investment for a winter signing.

However, considering his impressive record of 12 goals and one assist in 19 Premier League appearances this season, he could potentially justify the hefty price tag and prove to be a valuable addition to Arsenal’s pursuit of the title.

Furthermore, the endorsement from club legend Thierry Henry adds to the excitement surrounding the Englishman. Henry expressed his admiration, stating, “I suppose he had his struggles when he was younger, but his current performance is exceptional.”

Why Dominic Solanke could be the key to unlocking Arsenal’s attacking potential

Although Arsenal’s attack showcased its strength last season, with contributions from players like Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah, it fell short in the race for the title against Manchester City. Even so, their top four goal scorers, including Martinelli, Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Jesus, and Martin Odegaard, all reached double figures in the 2022/23 season.

Regrettably, the attack has failed to replicate the same level of success this season, highlighting the urgent need for a proficient number nine. This is where Solanke could potentially make a significant impact.

At the age of 26, Solanke has already surpassed ten goals for the season and appears poised to exceed the 20-goal mark. This achievement is particularly impressive considering he plays for a Cherries team that many believed would face relegation just a few months ago.

In contrast, Jesus has only managed to score three league goals, Martinelli has found the back of the net twice, Saka has scored six times, and Nketiah has contributed five goals.

Therefore, when it comes to pure goalscoring, the “predatory” number nine, as described by Soccer Saturday pundit Kris Boyd, outperforms the Arsenal attackers. However, how do Solanke’s underlying statistics compare to the recognized strikers of the Gunners?

Given his performances this season, it should come as no surprise that Solanke, described as “complete” by his manager Andoni Iraola, excels in most striker-related metrics.
