Arsenal Injury Update: Latest on Odegaard and Calafiori, Including Return Dates.

Arsenal’s Injury Status: Latest News on Odegaard and Calafiori, Including Their Return Dates.

Gunners’ Situation Set to Improve as Captain Aims for Significant Comeback

Following a challenging stretch of three Premier League matches without a victory, Arsenal may soon benefit from the return of captain Martin Odegaard from injury.

Odegaard’s potential comeback would provide a much-needed boost for the Gunners, who suffered a 1-0 defeat to Newcastle on Saturday and are set to face Inter Milan away in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The absence of Odegaard has been felt keenly, but the injury situation is improving, with Gabriel, Jurrien Timber, and Ben White all back in contention after a series of injuries affected Mikel Arteta’s squad.

Here’s the latest on Arsenal’s injury status:

Martin Odegaard

The key captain of Arsenal has been sidelined since sustaining an ankle injury during Norway’s 2-1 Nations League victory over Austria in September.

The encouraging news is that Odegaard has recently resumed training. Although he was not included in the squad for the match against Newcastle, sources indicate he is striving to be fit for selection against Inter.

In his program notes prior to the 2-2 draw with Liverpool on October 27, the midfielder mentioned he was “close” to returning and provided an update on his condition.

“I’ve been out for a few weeks now and have been working diligently to return as soon as possible,” he stated.

“As I mentioned in my notes on Tuesday, I feel like it’s close now. Even though I haven’t participated in recent matches, I believe I’ve utilized this time effectively.”

“Hopefully, I can emerge from this period feeling fresher and stronger, ready for the remainder of the season. That’s my goal now: to focus on the positives and make the most of this time. When I return, I’m confident I will feel good.”

Arsenal is scheduled to conduct an open training session on Tuesday morning before departing for Italy, and Odegaard will be eager to participate.

Expected return date: Wednesday, November 6, 2024, against Inter.

Riccardo Calafiori

After being forced to leave the pitch during the 1-0 victory against Shakhtar Donetsk last month, Calafiori has been absent for Arsenal’s last three matches against Liverpool, Preston, and Newcastle.

The Italian defender is not expected to return to action for the Gunners before the November international break, as Arteta indicated that his significant summer acquisition would “be out for a few weeks.”

Fortunately for Arsenal, they have several alternatives to fill the left-back position, including Jurrien Timber, Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, and young talent Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Potential return date: Unknown

Takehiro Tomiyasu

Just as Tomiyasu made his return to the field, he found himself sidelined again due to a setback in his recovery from a knee injury, occurring just six minutes into his first match of the season against Southampton last month.

His return timeline is still uncertain, but Arteta has confirmed that the adaptable defender will not participate before the November international break.

Potential return date: Unknown

Kieran Tierney

Once a key player, Tierney has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury during Euro 2024.

It is unclear what role, if any, he will play for the Gunners before the January transfer window, although he is anticipated to join first-team training soon.

“I think he’s quite close,” Arteta mentioned last week. “He looks really good. I believe he has moved past the phase where he was struggling, so he appears very sharp.

“He hasn’t yet trained with the team, but we hope he can do so in the next week or two.”

Potential return date: Unknown.
