Arsenal Injury Update: Latest on Saka, Rice, and Calafiori’s Return Dates

Arsenal’s injury update: Latest information regarding the return of Saka, Rice, and Calafiori.

Arsenal is anxiously monitoring the fitness of its England internationals.

As the international break approaches, the club is once again grappling with injury issues.

On a positive note, Martin Odegaard has returned to full fitness and made a strong impact in his first match back against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

However, both Bukayo Saka and Declan Rice had to leave the pitch during that game, raising questions about their availability for the England squad this week.

Additionally, Arsenal continues to be without defenders Takehiro Tomiyasu, Riccardo Calafiori, and Kieran Tierney.

Here’s the latest on Arsenal’s injury situation:

Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka had a subdued performance during his 81 minutes on the field against Chelsea before being substituted due to an injury concern.

This occurred shortly after a heavy challenge from Marc Cucurella, which forced Saka to exit the match. Following the game, manager Mikel Arteta expressed his worries regarding Saka’s condition, indicating that both he and Declan Rice are unlikely to participate in the upcoming Nations League fixtures.

“It doesn’t look good,” Arteta stated. “For two players of that importance to tell you they cannot continue in the game, obviously it’s not good news.

I don’t expect them to be fit because if they were, they wouldn’t have come off.”

Potential return date: Unknown

Declan Rice

There were initial concerns about Declan Rice’s fitness ahead of the Chelsea match, as he had missed the previous Champions League game against Inter Milan due to a broken toe.

However, he was cleared to play and managed to complete 70 minutes before being substituted for Mikel Merino.

Like Saka, Rice will undergo evaluation to determine if he will remain with the England squad.

Potential return date: Unknown.

Arsenal has been without Riccardo Calafiori for almost three weeks following an injury sustained during the match against Shakhtar Donetsk last month.

Italian reports indicated that the knee injury was not severe, and Arteta confirmed prior to the Newcastle match that the defender is expected to be sidelined for a “few weeks.”

While there has been no definitive update on Calafiori’s recovery, the club is optimistic about his return later this month.

Potential return date: Saturday, November 30, against West Ham.

Takehiro Tomiyasu has faced a challenging season, having played only a limited number of minutes in competitive matches.

After making his long-awaited comeback from a knee injury as a substitute against Southampton, he unfortunately sustained another injury during that game and has been unavailable since.

Arteta commented last month, “We don’t know how long he will be out for. It doesn’t seem like it will be a lengthy absence, but we need to assess how he responds to the physical demands and impact on the pitch upon his return.”

Kieran Tierney’s return to full fitness has been a topic of discussion, with Arteta suggesting that he may be close to rejoining the squad.

The left-back has yet to play this season due to a significant hamstring injury incurred while on international duty with Scotland at Euro 2024.

However, Arteta noted before last month’s victory over Preston that Tierney has shown considerable improvement.

“I think he’s quite close,” Arteta stated. “He looks really good and has moved past the phase where he was struggling, appearing sharp in his training.

He hasn’t yet participated in team training, but we hope he can do so in the next week or two.”

Potential return date: Unknown.
