Arsenal have announced the departure of 19 players, including two experienced veterans, as Mikel Arteta aims to revamp the squad.

Arsenal has officially announced that 19 players will be leaving the club as their contracts come to an end in June. This decision comes as Mikel Arteta aims to reshape the squad and make necessary changes.

Among the departing players are Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares, both of whom have been part of the first-team setup.

Elneny, the Egyptian midfielder who joined Arsenal from Basel in 2016, and Soares, the Portuguese full-back who arrived from Southampton in 2020, will now have the opportunity to explore new opportunities with other clubs starting from June 30.

The reorganization is happening as manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu aim to revamp the team following another season where they narrowly missed out on the Premier League title to Manchester City.

Despite being one of the most experienced players in the Arsenal squad, with 161 appearances in all competitions, 31-year-old Elneny only played six times in midfield this season.

Similarly, Soares had a tough season with minimal game time, featuring in just six matches. He is now looking for more regular playing opportunities elsewhere.

Additionally, the club has chosen not to extend a new contract to Arthur Okonkwo, the 22-year-old goalkeeper who recently played on loan at Wrexham.

In a recent interview with Mirror Football, he mentioned, “It’s been an amazing journey, starting at the age of eight and now at 22, having spent 15 years at the club. It’s been fantastic working with incredible people, from the academy to the first-team.”

“It’s a mixture of emotions for me as I embark on a new chapter in my career. I’ve had an incredible time at Arsenal, filled with many memorable years.

However, in the past two years, I’ve realized the importance of continuing to play and progressing in my journey. My ambition to represent my country at the international level still burns within me, and I haven’t made a decision yet between playing for England or Nigeria.

Being only 22 years old, I consider myself relatively young for a goalkeeper. The fact that I’ve already gained significant experience and played so much can only benefit me.

People may underestimate the challenges that come with my position, but I believe my experiences have made me stronger and more capable.

In other news, Arsenal is currently in talks with attacking midfielder Amario Cozier-Duberry, goalkeeper Karl Hein, and defender Reuell Walters regarding potential contract extensions.

Last month, Mirror Football reported that Walters was likely to leave the Gunners after rejecting a new offer. The 19-year-old center-back feels ready for regular first-team football, something that Arsenal cannot guarantee him at the moment.”
