Arne Slot offers an update regarding Liverpool’s injury situation, confirming that two players will be unavailable for the match against Nottingham Forest.
An update from Arne Slot reveals that two Liverpool players have been ruled out due to injuries for the upcoming game against Nottingham Forest.
Arne Slot has shared an update regarding Liverpool’s injury situation as they prepare for their match against Nottingham Forest, confirming that Joe Gomez and Darwin Nunez will not be available.
Gomez is still in the recovery phase from a muscle injury he sustained during the game against West Ham United, while Nunez is serving a suspension after receiving five yellow cards in the Premier League this season.
Slot commented on Gomez’s progress, stating, “He is quite far from returning. He is not yet with the team, and Darwin is also unavailable.
We will certainly miss them in tomorrow’s match.” He further indicated that Gomez’s return to full training is still some time away.
Despite having recently been unwell, Dominik Szoboszlai made a comeback over the weekend, participating for 45 minutes in the match against Accrington.
When asked about Nottingham Forest’s potential to challenge for the title, Slot remarked, “The best assessment of the table can be made at the halfway mark.
If Forest is competing with us, they are certainly a contender alongside other teams.” He commended their recent performances, stating they “deserve recognition” for their results.
Reflecting on their last encounter with Forest, Slot noted, “They demonstrated their quality as a team.”
He also mentioned that Liverpool’s defeat to Forest, which marked Virgil van Dijk’s 100th home appearance, was disappointing but, in retrospect, less surprising given Forest’s effective strategy.
As the match approaches, Slot highlighted the difficulties that Forest will present, considering their current standing in the Premier League and their strong form.
In a thorough evaluation of Forest’s swift ascent, Slot recognized the significant impact of financial resources on their achievements.
Since their return to the Premier League in 2022, Forest has invested approximately $263 million (£216 million) in player transfers, which includes the acquisition of 21 new players during their initial summer transfer window.
In contrast, Liverpool’s net expenditure was around $174 million (£144 million).
Slot noted that while Forest’s advancement is impressive, it is not entirely unexpected given their substantial financial support, remarking, “Considering the amount of money they have invested, it is perhaps not surprising that they are performing well this season.”
When discussing the historical context between the two clubs, Slot reflected on Liverpool’s European triumphs, stating, “I believe it was about 10 minutes when someone informed me that Liverpool won the European Cup in ’78/79, followed by Forest two years later, and then Liverpool again.”
He acknowledged Forest’s historical prominence in English football but stressed that they are currently in a phase of rebuilding.
As Liverpool prepares for their upcoming match, Slot is acutely aware of the challenges that lie ahead, asserting, “Tomorrow’s match will present a very tough challenge in our pursuit of a positive result.”
