Arne Slot gives an update on the Mo Salah contract discussions as PSG submits a transfer proposal…
Arne Slot provides insight into the ongoing situation regarding Mo Salah’s contract as PSG makes a transfer offer.
Mohamed Salah’s contract is set to expire at the conclusion of the current season, making his future a significant topic for manager Arne Slot during media interactions.
Slot has dismissed inquiries regarding the status of Salah’s contract negotiations following PSG’s bid for the forward.
Salah has been impressive under Slot’s management, netting five goals in nine appearances across all competitions for Liverpool.
However, with his contract ending this season, the 32-year-old has indicated that discussions have not yet commenced.
The subject of Salah’s future has frequently arisen in Slot’s media briefings throughout the season.
Nevertheless, the Dutch manager has been reticent to divulge details, preferring to keep discussions private.
In an effort to quell the speculation before the Premier League’s international break, Slot attempted to deflect questions about contracts during a press conference ahead of Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace.
He remarked: “Contracts?! (laughs) I was hoping you wouldn’t mention ‘contract’ in your last question because I was discussing Trent’s performance… It’s the same tedious response as always.
“I could understand if you asked me this every couple of weeks, but if you bring it up again after just two or three days, you’ll receive the same answer, and I worry that I’m boring you! So, let’s revisit this after the international break!”
Slot’s remarks come as PSG has initiated efforts to acquire Salah on a free transfer.
According to reports from The Sun, the French club is prepared to offer the forward a three-year contract with a salary that would significantly surpass Liverpool’s offer.
Salah will be eligible to negotiate with foreign clubs starting in January. Although PSG has shifted away from their previous Galacticos approach in recent years, the allure of signing Salah may prove irresistible.
Salah is eager to continue competing at the highest level, especially with PSG’s Qatari ownership feeling the pressure to secure a marquee signing following Kylian Mbappe’s exit.
The club’s management has expressed a strong desire to retain Salah, who recently scored against Bologna on Wednesday.
“What can I say about Mo? What you witnessed today is exactly what he brings to the team.
“If you position him correctly, he can find the back of the net. He also provided a fantastic assist. Prior to the match against Wolves, Mo had gone three games without a goal,” he remarked.
“In football, it’s not uncommon to have stretches where you score infrequently. However, players like Mo, Darwin, and others will consistently find their scoring touch as long as they are given the opportunity to play – the challenge is that I can’t field them all at once!
“Nonetheless, it’s reassuring to have such talent, and they will inevitably score. Mo performed exceptionally well today, and I am pleased with his contributions at this time. My focus is not on next season yet, as we still have six group matches to play, with the hope of many more to follow.”
