A reliable source from the upper echelons of football has confirmed the frontrunner for the next Liverpool manager position. De Zerbi and Amorim are the preferred choices, and negotiations are progressing positively to shape the agreement.

Trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano has verified that either Roberto De Zerbi or Ruben Amorim is the frontrunner to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager. Another report suggests that the preferred candidate is open to joining the Reds.

Klopp is set to conclude his illustrious nine-year tenure with Liverpool this summer. The Reds will aim to give Klopp a fitting send-off, especially after Manchester City and Arsenal played to a 0-0 draw on Sunday, putting the fate of the Premier League title in Liverpool’s hands.

Having already secured the League Cup, Liverpool will also have their sights set on winning the Europa League. However, the Premier League trophy remains the ultimate goal for Klopp and the Liverpool supporters.

Klopp has decided to take a break before making any decisions about his future plans. The question of who will replace the iconic German at Anfield remains uncertain.

Liverpool owners FSG had shown interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso as their top choice. However, Alonso put an end to the speculation last Friday by announcing that he will stay with Leverkusen for at least one more year.

As a result, Michael Edwards, who is returning, and the new sporting director Richard Hughes are now exploring other options.

Several names have been linked to the position, including Thomas Frank from Brentford, Ange Postecoglou from Tottenham, Simone Inzaghi from Inter Milan, Paulo Fonseca from Lille, and Julian Nagelsmann from Germany.

However, it is widely agreed among various sources that Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting CP’s Ruben Amorim are the top contenders in Liverpool’s search for a new manager.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has recently provided some insight into Liverpool’s preferences in this matter.

According to Romano, Liverpool’s hierarchy currently favors Amorim, who is 39 years old, as their top choice.

“While there have been discussions about De Zerbi potentially succeeding Klopp, I want to reiterate my stance on this – I have been informed that Ruben Amorim is currently the favored option,” Romano stated.

“De Zerbi has also been considered by Liverpool for some time, but there have been no significant developments thus far.

“We should also keep an eye on Bayern Munich’s decision-making process, as they are still internally discussing who will replace Thomas Tuchel, and no final decision has been made yet.”

Amorim expresses interest in joining Liverpool, but there’s a condition

Romano’s recent update follows a positive report from Portuguese outlet, Correio da Manha, regarding Liverpool.

According to the report, Amorim is open to the idea of joining Liverpool if they make an offer. However, he would prefer to leave Sporting on a high note by securing a domestic double first.

Currently, Amorim’s team is on track to achieve this feat. They currently lead the Primeira Liga, with a one-point advantage over Benfica and an additional game in hand.

Furthermore, Sporting holds a one-goal lead after the first leg of their Taca de Portugal (Portuguese FA Cup) semi-final against Benfica. If they advance to the final, they may face FC Porto, another prominent Portuguese club.

Amorim’s determination to win both competitions before leaving Sporting was highlighted by Correio de Manha. If Sporting fails to win either of the competitions, Amorim may consider his work unfinished in Lisbon and reject Liverpool’s offer.

The publication also mentioned that Amorim is well aware of his high standing on Liverpool’s shortlist. However, he will not make a final decision on his future until the current season concludes.

If Sporting manages to secure the double, the likelihood of Amorim succeeding Klopp will significantly increase. It is worth noting that Amorim’s Sporting contract includes a release clause that Liverpool can activate.

Reports have varied regarding the value of the clause, with Paul Joyce from the Times stating £17m, while Chris Bascombe and Jason Burt from the Telegraph suggest it could be as low as £12.8m.
