Liverpool’s ‘target’ receives an update from Fabrizio Romano, who confirms that personal terms have been agreed upon.
Fabrizio Romano shares news regarding Liverpool’s ‘target’ and reveals that an agreement has been reached on personal terms.
Liverpool’s transfer news suggests that the highly skilled young player has been linked to a potential move to the club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, it appears that James Trafford, who is reportedly on Liverpool’s radar, has reached an agreement on personal terms with Newcastle United.
The Burnley goalkeeper caught the eye last season despite suffering relegation under Vincent Kompany, attracting interest from several clubs.
Trafford has been a standout player for the England U21’s over the past couple of years, with his impressive performances putting him in contention for a spot in Gareth Southgate’s squad.
Although he was initially named in the 33-man squad, he ultimately missed out on the final selection.
Liverpool are reportedly considering the young goalkeeper as a potential replacement for Caoimhin Kelleher, who could be leaving this summer.
However, Newcastle seems to be leading the race for his signature, having already agreed on personal terms, with only the transfer fee left to be finalized.
Romano provided an update on the latest news, revealing that Newcastle have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with James Trafford as their preferred choice for a new goalkeeper.
A new offer is expected to be made to Burnley soon, amounting to around £15m with additional payments based on performance. It has also been mentioned that Manchester City will be entitled to 20% of the transfer fee from Burnley.
Trafford gained valuable experience in League One while playing for Bolton during the 2022/23 season, which led to him securing a starting position under Kompany last season.
He featured in the first 28 league matches of the campaign before being replaced by the more seasoned Arijanet Muric.
Despite his young age, Trafford demonstrated composure and bravery in playing out from the back, showcasing the attributes of a modern sweeper keeper with significant potential.
Kompany explained his rationale for dropping Trafford by pointing out the abundance of talent in that position. He emphasized that having two players of similar caliber allows him to make decisions that benefit the team without much difficulty.
This healthy competition between two strong players is something he values across multiple positions on the team.
The situation with Kelleher at Liverpool will continue to be a topic of discussion throughout the summer, with rumors suggesting a price tag exceeding £20m.
While Kelleher’s future remains uncertain, Adrian’s potential departure back to Spain could leave Liverpool in need of either promoting from within or signing a new goalkeeper.
