New Footage of Declan Rice’s Red Card Against Brighton Sparks Debate

A new perspective of Arsenal player Declan Rice receiving a red card against Brighton is gaining significant attention online.

A newly surfaced video capturing Declan Rice’s contentious red card during the match against Brighton is gaining significant attention, leaving fans perplexed about the decision to penalize the Arsenal midfielder.

Rice received a second yellow card for allegedly obstructing a quick free kick by knocking the ball out of play.

This incident led to Joel Veltman unnecessarily following through on Rice, resulting in the Arsenal player being left on the ground.

Referee Chris Kavangh decided to send Rice off, but the latest footage circulating online adds to the confusion surrounding the call.

Emerging Footage Provides Insight into the Incident.

Veltman Appears to Complain While Engaging with Rice.

In a recent update, Arsenal shared their ‘Access All Areas’ footage from the match, which includes a fresh perspective on Rice’s dismissal.

The video reveals that the ball struck Rice before he moved it out of play, indicating he was merely trying to clear it from his path.

When viewed in slow motion, an intriguing detail about Veltman’s actions comes to light.

As the footage slows down, Veltman is seen raising his arms toward the referee, seemingly appealing for a decision while simultaneously making contact with Rice, who had not yet fallen.

Additionally, it becomes evident that the ball was nearly off the pitch when Veltman made contact, suggesting that his attempt to play the ball was unnecessary and raising questions about whether his actions toward the 25-year-old were intentional.

Micah Richards Shares His Thoughts on Rice’s Red Card.

The former Manchester City player did not hold back in his assessment.

During a recent episode of the Rest is Football podcast, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards expressed his strong disapproval of a recent decision, describing it as one of the most egregious he has ever witnessed.

“I believe this is one of the most questionable decisions I’ve encountered. Firstly, Pedro kicked the ball away, which is irrelevant since it was off the pitch.

It appeared to me that [Mikel] Arteta was preparing to retrieve the ball to pass it to his player, suggesting potential time-wasting.

“Secondly, regarding Veltman, he might claim he was attempting to execute a quick free kick. However, if that were the case, he wouldn’t have thrown the ball five yards ahead.

“Instead, he should have simply placed his hand on the ball and passed it. Moreover, that was not an appropriate moment for a quick free kick.

“Looking at the reverse angle from the match, there was no one in the vicinity where he intended to kick the ball.

“I could understand if Declan Rice had moved toward the ball, but he was actually moving away, which is a natural response. There is absolutely no justification for that to warrant a second yellow card.”

With Arsenal unable to contest the ruling, Rice will be sidelined for the north London derby against Tottenham on Sunday, September 15.

This situation may leave Mikel Arteta and the rest of the Gunners feeling even more frustrated after reviewing the latest footage.
