Matheus Cunha has reached a personal agreement with Arsenal, but he has also negotiated a new contract with Wolves.

Despite this, he is hesitant to sign it because of Arsenal’s interest. The player is highly motivated to join Arsenal and is actively working to facilitate the transfer.

Matheus Cunha’s potential transfer to Arsenal has taken an intriguing turn as Wolves’ head coach, Vitor Pereira, prepares for a possible January move.

Recent developments suggest that Arsenal’s prospects of acquiring the Brazilian forward have improved.

Despite reports indicating that Cunha has reached an agreement on a new contract with Wolves, he remains a target for several clubs, including the Gunners.

With Mikel Arteta actively seeking to bolster his attacking options, Cunha’s name has naturally surfaced.

The 25-year-old has demonstrated his capabilities this season, netting 10 goals and providing four assists in 22 matches, indicating he is beginning to fulfill his potential.

However, Cunha has faced challenges recently, including a suspension, illness, and injury, which limited his appearances.

His return to the starting lineup against Chelsea marked his first since late December, but the match ended in a disappointing 3-1 loss for Wolves, despite some promising contributions from him.

In the aftermath of the game, Pereira addressed Cunha’s performance during his post-match press conference, expressing concerns about the player’s attitude.

“He can feel frustrated because he wants to win, but so does everyone in the dressing room,” Pereira stated.

“I am not pleased with his body language. I expect a captain to support the team by running, enduring, and fighting together.

“While I can empathize with his feelings, there are limits to my understanding.”

When questioned about Cunha’s failure to acknowledge the away fans, Pereira remarked, “This is something I find difficult to comprehend.

“While I understand the frustration, unity is essential. We must work together to resolve our issues and secure our place in the Premier League.”

He added, “If we begin to dwell on complaints, that is not the solution. Cunha is dedicated to Wolves, but constant speculation about other clubs can understandably lead to distractions.”

He must focus on his objectives and elevate his performance following his injury to contribute positively to his team once more. The team requires his positive energy rather than any frustration. It is essential for him to take a step back and align his mindset appropriately.

Despite Pereira achieving three victories in his initial five matches as head coach, Wolves are experiencing another downturn, compounded by off-field issues. Mario Lemina has not played for Wolves since the loss to Nottingham Forest on January 6, and his absence is not due to injury.

Only a few months after losing the captaincy, the 31-year-old is eager to leave the Midlands in January, a situation confirmed by Pereira, who stated that this desire is the reason for Lemina’s lack of playing time. “I consider him out until the end of the transfer window,” he acknowledged.

“I want players who are fully committed to the team and the club. He still seeks a transfer, and I prefer not to have players with uncertainties.” Given the current turmoil at Wolves, Arsenal may see an opportunity to capitalize on the situation and acquire Cunha to address their attacking challenges before the transfer deadline.
