Arne Slot addresses Harvey Elliott amid Liverpool transfer rumors

Mo Salah noted that Harvey is competing with four or five highly skilled midfielders, a point that may be open to debate.

“I appreciated our performance in the final 20-25 minutes against Forest, which is why I see no need for changes.

If we reflect on that match, we played well for the first hour but struggled to create significant chances, prompting my decision to substitute.

“I moved Ryan Gravenberch to center-back and replaced Ibou (Ibrahima Konate) to enhance our attacking opportunities.

Once we began generating more chances, I felt it unnecessary to make further substitutions as we were all anticipating a goal.”

Arne Slot refrained from commenting on the speculation surrounding Harvey Elliott’s potential exit from Liverpool but acknowledged the midfielder’s dissatisfaction with his limited playing time this season.

Elliott has not yet started a Premier League match this year and remained on the bench during Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.

The England Under-21 international has only made two starts this season, one in the Carabao Cup against Southampton and another in the recent 4-0 victory over Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup.

The former Fulham player has logged just 43 minutes in the Premier League this season, with a foot injury in September sidelining him for nearly three months, from early September to late November.

Earlier this month, Elliott was linked with interest from both Brighton & Hove Albion and Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund.

While Slot did not delve into these rumors, he indicated that it “would be unusual” for the 21-year-old to be entirely satisfied with his current position in the team.

“The last point you raised regarding Elliott’s playing time is certainly valid,” Slot stated.

“It would be unusual for him to approach me and say: ‘I’m very happy with the amount of playing time I have right now.’ However, my response to your inquiry about transfer rumors remains consistent.”

We refrain from discussing rumors related to players involved in contract negotiations or those associated with other clubs.

It is only natural for a player to desire more playing time; if he were content with his current circumstances, that would be concerning.

“Every day, he is putting in maximum effort. Similar to Federico [Chiesa], who faces competition from Mo Salah, Harvey is competing against four or five highly skilled midfielders, whether you agree or not.

“I was pleased with our performance during the last 20-25 minutes against Forest, which is why I see no reason to make changes.

If we want to revisit that moment, we performed reasonably well in the first hour, but we struggled to create significant chances, prompting my decision to substitute.

“I moved Ryan Gravenberch to a center-back position and replaced Ibou (Ibrahima Konate) to enhance our chances of scoring.

However, once we began generating numerous opportunities, I felt it unnecessary to make further substitutions as we were all anticipating a goal.”
