Liverpool and Arsenal’s crucial next six fixtures in Premier League title race as gap narrows – Fixtures compare…
Liverpool and Arsenal’s pivotal upcoming fixtures in the Premier League title race as the competition tightens
The next six games for Liverpool and Arsenal are vital in the context of the Premier League title race, as the distance between the two teams continues to diminish.
Liverpool has secured victories in only three of their last seven matches across all competitions, raising concerns that Arne Slot’s squad may be experiencing their first slump of the season, with Arsenal closely pursuing them.
The Reds are entering a critical phase in their title challenge, having gone two Premier League matches without a win for the first time this season, while Arsenal has gained momentum following a crucial 2-1 victory over Tottenham.
Liverpool’s recent form includes just three wins in their last seven games, and there are worries that Arne Slot’s team might be facing a downturn, particularly after a challenging 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest.
Securing a win at the City Ground was always going to be a tough task, especially with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side currently sitting second in the league after an impressive season.
This result followed a disappointing home draw against Manchester United and a loss in the Carabao Cup.
On the other hand, Arsenal had been winless in three matches across all competitions before their North London Derby but have now regained their form, closing the gap to just four points behind their rivals after Wednesday’s win.
Here, Mirror Football examines the next six fixtures for both Liverpool and Arsenal, which could prove crucial in the title race.
Liverpool
Arne Slot’s team has several significant yet manageable matches ahead in the Premier League after navigating a challenging stretch that included encounters with Manchester United, Tottenham, and the high-flying Forest.
Their next match will be against Brentford, who recently staged a comeback from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Manchester City in dramatic fashion.
Thomas Frank’s side poses a significant threat, having scored 40 goals this season.
Following a Champions League match against Lille, Liverpool will face a quick turnaround before taking on relegation-threatened Ipswich on January 25, a match that must be viewed as essential for securing points against a team just above the relegation zone.
A challenging journey to Bournemouth on February 1 follows a European match against PSV, leading up to a rescheduled clash with rivals Everton, which will mark the final encounter at Goodison Park.
Players may experience fatigue during this period, as they face Spurs in the Carabao Cup and Plymouth in the FA Cup within a span of six days prior to the Merseyside Derby.
Liverpool will then host Wolves on February 16, competing against a team also striving for survival in the top tier.
The sequence concludes with a demanding away match against Manchester City, where Pep Guardiola aims to rejuvenate their season following a disappointing stretch before the New Year.
Liverpool’s upcoming six Premier League fixtures include:
Brentford (a) – January 18
Ipswich (h) – January 25
Bournemouth (a) – February 1
Wolves (h) – February 16
Manchester City (a) – February 23
Arsenal, like Liverpool, has faced a series of tough matches after defeats to Newcastle and Manchester United in the cup, followed by a hard-fought victory in the North London Derby.
Their next six matches are equally challenging, starting with a home game against former manager Unai Emery, who is currently performing well with Aston Villa.
Following that, they will travel to Wolves on January 25 before hosting last season’s title contenders, Manchester City, at the Emirates on February 2, shortly after a trip to Girona.
A brief respite will occur between their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg against Newcastle on February 5 and their away match against struggling Leicester City on February 15, before welcoming Graham Potter’s West Ham to north London.
However, the schedule intensifies for Mikel Arteta’s squad as they prepare to visit Nottingham Forest, who are just two points behind them, on February 25.
Arsenal’s next six Premier League fixtures are as follows:
Aston Villa (h)
Wolves (a)
Manchester City (h)
Leicester City (a)
West Ham (h)
Nottingham Forest (a)
