Arsenal player ratings vs Crystal Palace: Gabriel Jesus shines and Rice stands out

Arsenal player ratings – ‘Flawless’ 10/10 and ‘brilliant’ 9 in dominant win over Crystal Palace.

Mikel Arteta’s team showcased their prowess by scoring five goals against Crystal Palace in the latest London derby as the festive season approaches.

In a commanding second half performance, Arsenal overcame a resilient Crystal Palace side with a 5-1 victory on Saturday evening, entering the Christmas period on a high note following another successful Premier League match.

The Eagles initially posed a threat to the Gunners, particularly in a lively first half. Gabriel Jesus netted two goals before halftime, with Kai Havertz also contributing to the scoreline, leading to a 3-1 advantage at the break.

To stabilize the game, Mikel Arteta introduced Declan Rice, who effectively managed the tempo. Rice’s efforts culminated in a goal, with Gabriel Martinelli redirecting his shot before Rice added another to his tally with under ten minutes remaining.

Here’s how the Arsenal players performed.

Arsenal player ratings

GK – David Raya, 9

Despite a few casual moments on the ball in the first half, Raya’s impressive saves made up for it. He faced a busy night in goal for Arsenal, repeatedly thwarting Crystal Palace, including a remarkable double save against Sarr and Mateta in the second half.

LB – Myles Lewis-Skelly, 8

The young defender had a challenging task against the dangerous Sarr. At just 18, he has shown he can handle the Premier League’s demands and wasn’t hesitant to engage physically with the likes of Jean-Philippe Mateta. He was substituted after 58 minutes following a period of Palace pressure on that side.

CB – William Saliba, 7

Saliba improved significantly in the second half after a few mistakes in the opening period.

CB – Gabriel, 8

After Saka was forced to leave the field in the first half, he stepped up with determination, finding the net and earning his goal.

ST – Gabriel Jesus, 9

A dazzling display from the striker. This performance will significantly boost his confidence and help alleviate concerns about Arsenal’s need for a key player in January. He transformed after scoring his first goal and finished the second with great skill.

RW – Bukayo Saka, 8

Delivered a beautiful cross for the opening goal and posed a threat on counterattacks before being substituted due to a concerning injury.

SUB – Leandro Trossard, 6

Had a subdued first half after replacing Saka but improved in the second half as Crystal Palace struggled to contain him.

SUB – Declan Rice, 10

Provided exactly what Arsenal required upon his introduction, enhancing the midfield’s stability. He fulfilled all of Arteta’s expectations for a substitute and capped off his impressive cameo with a stunning long-range goal.

SUB – Riccardo Calafiori, 8

With Lewis-Skelly starting to tire in that position, Calafiori came on to effectively counter a rising threat from Palace.

SUB – Mikel Merino, N/A

SUB – Ethan Nwaneri, N/A.
