Liverpool has received approval for the transfer of Rayan Cherki following the confirmation of his deal with Lyon.

Rayan Cherki’s transfer to Liverpool has been given the go-ahead, with Lyon officially confirming the arrangement.

Liverpool has received a favorable indication regarding the potential transfer of Lyon forward Rayan Cherki as the club’s deal has been confirmed.

Recent developments in Liverpool’s transfer strategy suggest that they may have a significant opportunity to acquire Rayan Cherki from Lyon during the upcoming January transfer window.

There has been considerable speculation linking Cherki to a move to Anfield, and it seems that Lyon is preparing to find a suitable replacement for him, despite facing a transfer embargo.

The Reds have been discreet in their approach as the transfer window approaches, keeping their plans regarding the current squad under wraps.

Recent performances have highlighted how injuries and suspensions can disrupt the team’s balance, especially with aspirations in the Premier League, Champions League, and Carabao Cup.

In the summer, the club’s strategy was to act on ‘opportunistic’ transfer scenarios, and Cherki certainly fits this profile, particularly as Lyon is under pressure to generate funds quickly to avoid relegation to Ligue 2.

“I’ll see at the end of the season if I’m still here or not,” Cherki recently stated.

Lyon has been facing severe penalties due to their substantial debt of €508 million (£421.1 million), which includes a transfer ban.

However, reports from ESPN indicate that they are planning to finalize a signing in January.

“Everything is set for me to join Lyon. I will be going on January 5. I inquired about the financial issues, and they assured me they would be resolved,” said Thiago Almada, a playmaker from Botafogo, who is expected to make the move.

The 23-year-old Argentine, who plays as an attacking midfielder or winger, transferred to Botafogo in July for €20 million (£16.5 million), with the understanding that he would transition between the two clubs after six months.

It remains uncertain how the French club will navigate the ban imposed by the Direction Nationale du Controle de Gestion (DNCG), but they are at least planning to register and utilize their new playmaker for the latter part of the season.

With the possibility of needing to sell key players next month, Cherki—who plays the same position as Almada—may emerge as a prime candidate to generate funds, making him an appealing option for Liverpool if they decide to pursue their reported interest.

Manager Pierre Sage expressed some doubt when questioned about the likelihood of the 21-year-old remaining with the team after the January transfer window, and it has been suggested that a bid of €25m (£20.8m) would be sufficient to secure the transfer for the Reds.
