Liverpool is engaged in discussions to acquire “one of the top players globally,” who shares a playing style similar to that of Mohamed Salah.

With the January transfer window approaching, the club is looking to bolster its squad.

The focus is on Brazilian under-23 international Gabriel Pec, who has had an impressive season with LA Galaxy in Major League Soccer.

According to caughtoffside.com, while details are sparse, it is reported that several Premier League teams, including Arsenal and Crystal Palace, as well as clubs from Serie A, are interested in securing his services.

After an outstanding tally of 21 goals and 19 assists in the 2024 season, it is understandable that he is drawing attention from top-tier clubs.

Arsenal and Liverpool represent contrasting approaches to player recruitment.

Arsenal has been assembling a youthful, dynamic team characterized by technical skill, whereas Liverpool prioritizes players who excel in their high-intensity, relentless “gegenpressing” style. Pec appears to be a suitable candidate for either strategy.

For Liverpool, he could serve as an ideal successor to players like Diogo Jota or Darwin Núñez, who are either aging or struggling to maintain their positions.

Pec possesses the bold attacking mentality that Klopp values, along with a level of maturity in decision-making and ball distribution that is uncommon for someone of his age.

Could he be the next Salah? If Pec can replicate even a fraction of his MLS success in the Premier League, he might be seen as a potential replacement for Salah on the right flank, though not necessarily an upgrade.

Pec is an exceptional dribbler, and the excitement surrounding him is well-founded.

In a league often dominated by physicality, he offers a refreshing blend of intelligence and creativity, transforming ordinary situations into spectacular moments that captivate fans.

Liverpool will require a player with significantly more experience to fill the position left by their club legend.

It is uncertain when Liverpool or any other team will make an offer for Pec, who, despite being 23, is still viewed as a player for the future.

With a valuation of approximately £6.6 million, LA Galaxy is likely to demand a higher price, especially since the former Vasco da Gama player is under contract until 2028.

However, Liverpool may need to act quickly and submit a bid next month to avoid a prolonged bidding war.
