As well as Diaz: Slot needs to quickly drop the Liverpool player who has a 75% loss rate in duels…

Similar to Diaz, Slot should immediately cut ties with the Liverpool player who has lost three-quarters of his duels.

Liverpool faced numerous challenges but managed to secure a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Marco Silva’s Fulham at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.

Fulham took an early lead with a goal from Andreas Pereira in the 11th minute.

The situation worsened for Liverpool when Andy Robertson received a red card for a last-man foul on Harry Wilson in the 17th minute.

Despite these difficulties, Arne Slot’s team responded positively, leveling the score with a goal from Cody Gakpo shortly after halftime.

Fulham regained the lead through Rodrigo Muniz, but Slot’s impactful substitute, Diogo Jota, came off the bench to net a late equalizer.

While earning a point was commendable given the circumstances following Robertson’s dismissal, some players underperformed, including Luis Diaz.

Luis Diaz’s performance against Fulham

The Colombian forward was chosen to spearhead Liverpool’s attack, ahead of Darwin Nunez and Jota, but did not contribute significantly to the team’s offensive efforts.

He showed resilience in physical confrontations, winning two out of four ground duels and both aerial duels, indicating he was not easily overpowered by Fulham’s defenders.

However, Diaz’s passing accuracy was only 79%, and he managed just one key pass without creating any significant opportunities for his teammates, highlighting his struggles in terms of creativity.

The 27-year-old was also ineffective in front of goal, missing a clear opportunity and failing to convert his 0.64 expected goals (xG) from two shots.

It would be prudent for Slot to replace him with Jota for the upcoming League Cup match against Southampton, and central midfielder Curtis Jones should also be removed from the starting lineup.

Curtis Jones’ performance against Fulham

The Liverpool academy product was selected to play alongside Ryan Gravenberch and Dominic Szoboszlai in midfield but faced difficulties both in possession and defensively.

Jones struggled to hold his own against the Fulham players, losing 75% of his duels during his time on the field, indicating that the opposition found it relatively easy to dominate him.

His deficiencies were not limited to his defensive efforts; the England international also failed to generate any scoring opportunities for his teammates.

As illustrated in the table above, his midfield counterparts excelled defensively, while Szoboszlai emerged as the primary creative force for Slot.

Given this performance and the context of a midweek cup match, the Dutch head coach should seriously contemplate relegating the Liverpool player to the bench for the upcoming match against the Saints on Wednesday, considering his difficulties both on and off the ball.
