Stephen Warnock impressed by Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson in victory over Girona

Stephen Warnock expressed his amazement at Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson’s display in the win against Girona.

Liverpool has advanced to the Champions League Round of 16 following a 1-0 victory against Girona, secured by a penalty from Mohamed Salah on Tuesday night.

The Reds have achieved six consecutive wins in this tournament, although Arne Slot expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s performance.

Liverpool’s display was subpar, but they were saved by the returning goalkeeper Alisson Becker, who delivered a series of remarkable saves.

After a spectacular stop to deny Yaser Asprilla, Stephen Warnock praised him as “stunning” during his commentary for BBC Radio.

He remarked, as reported by BBC Sport: “Absolutely stunning from Alisson. He makes saves look so easy.

“He got two big strong hands to it and pushed it to safety.”

Alisson has once again been exceptional for Liverpool. Slot has already confirmed that Alisson will retain his position as the first-choice goalkeeper and will start upon his return from injury.

Rory Smith has suggested that Alisson might be sold in the upcoming summer transfer window, but for now, he is set to return to the starting lineup, despite Caoimhin Kelleher’s commendable performances in his absence.

Alisson, earning £150k per week, sustained a muscle injury against Crystal Palace in October.

Liverpool has been cautious with his recovery, avoiding any risks.

Upon his return, he has once again demonstrated his vital role within the club over the years.

Slot’s team has made an impressive start in Europe this season, securing a direct spot in the last 16. This allows him to rest some key players for the next two matches.

The transition from Jurgen Klopp to the Slot era has been unexpectedly smooth, positioning them as strong contenders for the title.

No team in Europe will relish the prospect of facing Liverpool in the knockout stages, highlighting their impressive form thus far.

Additionally, Liverpool holds a four-point lead at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand.
