The Merseyside derby featuring Everton and Liverpool at Goodison Park has been postponed due to safety concerns stemming from the severe weather conditions brought on by Storm Darragh.

An amber weather warning for high winds was issued for the Merseyside area on Saturday morning, reflecting the widespread disruption across the UK.

The decision to call off the match followed discussions among representatives from both clubs, Merseyside Police, and Liverpool City Council.

“While we understand this news will be disappointing for fans, the safety of supporters, staff, and players is our top priority,” stated Everton.

Liverpool echoed this sentiment, noting that the decision was made “due to safety risks in the local area.”

Originally scheduled to kick off at 12:30 GMT, this match was set to be the last league derby at Goodison Park before Everton transitions to a new stadium in 2025.

Liverpool currently holds a seven-point lead over Chelsea and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League, with both teams scheduled to play on Sunday against Tottenham and Fulham, respectively.

Everton, managed by Sean Dyche, sits in 15th place in the league, five points above the relegation zone.

In light of the storm, millions in parts of Wales and south-west England have been advised to remain indoors to avoid potential hazards.

Meteorologists have warned of wind gusts reaching up to 90 mph in certain areas, and the Met Office has issued its highest-level red warning for regions in western and southern Wales, where many homes are experiencing power outages.
