Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Liverpool is optimistic about finalizing a new contract for one of their key players.

The club has been the subject of ongoing speculation regarding the futures of Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, all of whom are nearing the point where they could enter into pre-contract agreements with overseas teams.

Salah has expressed his frustration over the absence of a contract proposal from the club, particularly given his outstanding performance at the beginning of this season.

Virgil van Dijk, however, is set to remain at Liverpool, as reported exclusively by Anfield Watch earlier this month. The Dutch defender’s agent has communicated to all interested clubs that he will not be transferring and intends to sign a new contract with the Reds.

In contrast, the situation regarding Trent Alexander-Arnold remains uncertain, with Real Madrid showing interest in the possibility of the 26-year-old departing his childhood club to join Jude Bellingham in Spain.

Romano has now shared an update concerning the contract discussions of another prominent Liverpool player.

Romano: Liverpool ‘confident’ in retaining star defender

Beyond the trio, Liverpool has several players in urgent need of new contracts.

Conor Bradley, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, and Luis Diaz are among those whose contracts are set to expire in 2027, meaning the club has roughly a year before facing a similar predicament with multiple players.

However, Romano has delivered encouraging news for Liverpool supporters regarding Ibrahima Konate, who is anticipated to sign a new deal soon.

“Discussions regarding a new contract for Ibrahima Konaté at Liverpool are progressing as expected,” Romano stated in a post on X. “The club is confident of finalizing it.

“#LFC management and coaching staff are pleased with Ibrahima, as they envision him as part of a long-term project.”

Konate has displayed exceptional performance for Arne Slot’s team this season, playing a vital role in establishing the league’s strongest defense since he was introduced at halftime during the opening match against Ipswich Town.

His recent injury is already presenting challenges for Slot, as evidenced by the vulnerabilities that surfaced during the recent draw with Newcastle, highlighting his significance to the squad.

The management and coaching staff are pleased with Ibrahima and wish to include him in their long-term plans.
