In an impressive turnaround, Liverpool U19s overcame a deficit to dominate Leverkusen, with a 17-year-old scoring an extraordinary volley.

Liverpool U19s staged a remarkable comeback to secure a 4-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen U19s, highlighted by an outstanding volley from 17-year-old Kieran Morrison.

This win brings them closer to advancing in the UEFA Youth League.

Fielding a highly offensive lineup featuring Rio Ngumoha, Ranel Young, and Trent Kone-Doherty in attack, along with Kieran Morrison and Trey Nyoni in midfield, Liverpool aimed to assert their dominance from the start.

However, it was Leverkusen who struck first, earning an early penalty when goalkeeper Kornel Misciur fouled Montrell Culbreath in the box.

Kerim Alajbegovic converted the penalty with precision, finding the side-netting as Misciur dove in the opposite direction.

In the opening minutes, Liverpool’s best opportunities came from the right flank, where Nyoni, Ngumoha, and Young worked together to penetrate the Leverkusen defense, though they struggled to create clear chances.

Nyoni’s constant demand for the ball, combined with Morrison’s skill, led to Liverpool’s equalizer.

A well-executed one-two between Nyoni and Morrison resulted in a blocked shot, but the ball fell to Morrison, who skillfully adjusted his position to volley it into the corner of the net.

This moment of brilliance from the young talent would have certainly impressed the watching legend, Rudi Voller.

As the first half progressed, Liverpool began to control possession, yet they remained vulnerable to counter-attacks, particularly from Leverkusen’s imposing striker, Artem Stepanov.

Just before half-time, Stepanov made a strong run down the right, holding off Amara Nallo to unleash a shot on goal. Fortunately for Liverpool, Misciur was alert enough to deflect the effort wide.

Culbreath had already struck the post from a similar position, so Liverpool’s 17-year-old goalkeeper was prepared for the near-post attempt.

Right after the interval, Stepanov found himself in a scoring position once again, but Misciur was resolute, blocking the striker’s shot.

Leverkusen soon threatened again, with Culbreath getting past Nallo, only to have his effort thwarted by the goalkeeper.

In the early moments of the second half, the game was lively, with action rapidly shifting from one end to the other until play was interrupted by an injury to the visitors’ goalkeeper, Jesper Schlich.

Liverpool opened the scoring in the second half when Carter Pinnington headed in directly from a Josh Davidson inswinging free-kick.

After 72 minutes, coach Barry Lewtas made his first substitution, opting to replace Young with Keyrol Figueroa in the forward position.

The substitution proved effective almost immediately, as Ngumoha fought for possession on the left and set up Figueroa, who skillfully finished into the far corner with nearly his first touch.

Kone-Doherty nearly added to the score, finding space on the right to shoot across goal, but the goalkeeper was up to the challenge.

However, the winger eventually found the net in injury time after receiving a pass from Figueroa.

For Liverpool to advance to the next round of the Youth League, they need to secure a position in the top 22 of the 36-team league.

They currently hold a three-point advantage over the 23rd-placed team, Aston Villa, with only one match remaining in the league phase, which will be at home against Real Madrid.
