Fabian Hurzeler, the manager of Brighton, has provided Liverpool with a pair of warnings as they prepare for the ‘second leg’ encounter.
As the ‘second leg’ approaches, Brighton’s Fabian Hurzeler has sent a double message of caution to Liverpool.
The Brighton coach highlights the need for his team to remain focused and disciplined.
As the Seagulls gear up for their trip to Anfield on Saturday, Hurzeler has received encouraging news regarding the potential return of two key players in their quest for retribution against Liverpool.
Brighton narrowly missed a late comeback in their previous match, suffering a 3-2 defeat after falling behind 2-0 against Arne Slot’s team in the Carabao Cup. However, they now have an opportunity for redemption in the Premier League just days later.
This season, Brighton has already managed to secure points against top teams like Arsenal, Tottenham, and Manchester United, and they will be eager to see Liverpool stumble in the title race this weekend. The 31-year-old Hurzeler will have additional options to consider on Saturday afternoon.
Joao Pedro and Matt O’Riley have both returned to training with the south coast club, and while they still need to demonstrate their fitness, their presence is a positive development for the German coach. Pedro has been sidelined since September due to an ankle injury sustained during a challenge from Morgan Gibbs-White.
“We need to assess his situation—he’s coming back from a lengthy injury—but he is back in training,” Hurzeler commented regarding Pedro ahead of the match against Liverpool.
O’Riley, on the other hand, has only played nine minutes for Brighton since his summer transfer from Celtic. He underwent surgery after suffering an ankle injury during his debut, following a challenge from Crawley Town’s Jay Williams.
“Matt O’Riley is back in training,” Hurzeler stated. “We will evaluate when he will be ready to potentially join the squad.
“We didn’t anticipate his return would be this swift, but our medical team is exceptional. He has put in significant effort during his rehabilitation, and he possesses a commendable character. We are eager to see him back on the pitch.”
Hurzeler is optimistic that his team can demonstrate greater decisiveness in their upcoming match against Liverpool. The young coach expressed his frustration over the inefficiency displayed in his team’s previous performance.
“It is disappointing to exit the cup, but we lacked the necessary ruthlessness, and that was the key factor,” Hurzeler remarked.
“Liverpool capitalized on crucial moments. They scored unexpectedly with an incredible shot. Their timing was impeccable today, and we failed to respond effectively at critical junctures.
“While there were many positive aspects to our play, there were also negatives; otherwise, we wouldn’t have lost the match.”
